"What separates us as believers in Christ is much less than what unites us." (Pope John XXIII)
Almost all important doctrine is completely agreed upon between Catholic Christians and other Christians.
Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):
By grace alone, in faith in Christ's saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works.
There are many minor doctrine issues and some major cultural traditional differences which, I believe, do not matter that much.
A Catholic worships and follows Christ in the tradition of Catholicism which, among other things, recognizes that Christ made Peter the leader of His new Church and Pope Benedict XVI is Peter's direct successor.
With love in Christ.

Pastor Billy says: you need to rewrite your question
are Protestant and Catholic the same? No as one is protesting the other. Catholics are Christians and some Protestants are Christians.
In the eyes of the One Catholic Christian Church, those Protestants who have received a proper baptism are imperfectly in union with the Catholic Church through this conversion to the Body of Christ.
Some pseudo-Protestant sects such as the Jehovah Witnesses, Oneness Pentecostals, Mormons and 7th Day Adventists who reject the Christology taught by early Christianity (meaning Christ's true nature, second person of the Trinity, two natures etc) are not the same and are not Christian.
Your next question might be what is it to live out your life a Christian?
All Catholics are Christian, not all Protestants are Christian or Catholic.

Catholicism is a form of Christianity. If you are a Catholic, you are a Christian; but you can be a Christian without being a Catholic. It's easiest to think of Christianity as a tree: the trunk of the tree is Christianity itself, and the branches are all different sects of Christianity - Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Episcopalian, Eastern Orthodox, etc.

Yes, and no. There are many Roman Catholics that love God through Jesus Christ. But there are many that don't. They are taught many things that cause many of them to worship angels and so called 'saints' through prayer, which is a form of worship.
On the other side, there are many people who call themselves 'Christian' that have no idea of what they are supposed to do, and what they are supposed to believe.
So it's up to the individual that finds themself just going with the flow, that think that there might be something missing fromwhat it is that they call themself, for them to understand that there is a matter of the heart that comes through determination to find out what those things are.
Ultimately, there is a point where a Chrisitan can become sure of what to believe in, to value what God has promised above all other things that would bring them to doubt it. That person who applies themself in that way is a true Christian.

All Catholics are Christians, but not all Christians are Catholics.
Catholicism is the original form of Christianity, all other Christian denominations are offshoots of Catholicism.
