Me too.
I think it is rather presumptuous to say "I'm saved" when the tribulation and Armageddon have not yet come to pass.
If christians are supposed to tell the truth, then they should reserve their proclamations of "I'm saved" to the point in time when they are actually passed these prophetic events, and still conscious. Anything else, as I said, is very presumptuous, and might even be considered haughty.

Personally, I was saved from a living hell by a miracle. I was living in clinical (suicidal) depression for nearly five years. It finally came to a climax when I ended up in an ER after my last suicide attempt. To make a long story short, a friend came to the rescue giving me a book and praying for me which did what the doctors and all their medicines and treatments could not do... Cure me. I was an agnostic prior to this. The subsequent events of good fortune convinced me that I was saved from this living hell by (insert your word for supreme being). One evening, I was giving thanks for being rescued from certain doom, and asked what should I do to show my appreciation... to which I heard a distinct reply, "Go out and help others". So I responded by building a website with all kinds of help for depressed folks along with some other helpful things for diabetics and so forth.
I can't speak for everyone, but I have always been responsible for my own actions, for the most part. This particular situation I described was beyond my capabilities and the doctors' as well. When I hear someone say that they have been saved, it just means that God has entered their life in some way... that's all. Whether through an angel, such as my friend, or some other way. Just saved from a hopeless existence for many, I suspect. Hopefully, one day, you will find that there is a lot more that lies beyond this particular realm and you might understand better... all it takes is a miracle or two.

Saved is the term used by some Christians to describe the forgiveness of sin...thus the promise of eternal life with God as opposed to the alternative. Only God can give us salvation through forgiveness. For Christians, that forgiveness comes through the loving sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Beyond that, I can say no more.

Actually many people are inclined to sin and can't help themselves, so being saved from sin means you are no longer in bondage to the sinful nature and you can easily choose to not commit adultery, lie, etc. People that are alcoholics can't stay away from beer or whiskey or whatever they drink; they don't have enough self-control to stay away from it. This could be the case with many other "sins." My father-in-law was unable to quit drinking until he received the Holy Spirit, and after that he didn't want it any more.
In Matthew chapter one it actually does say Jesus will save people from their sins.

Saved from damnation. Saved from going to hell. Like a lifesaver saves a person from drowning, Jesus saves us from going to hell and all that goes along with it. Saved is saving FAITH. Faith in Jesus Christ and the way to salvation that He provides. Read John 3:16 and get an idea of what I am talking about. Saved means salvation. Salvation from our sins and the punishment that sin causes. Salvation means that we are saved by grace. The grace of God through faith Faith in God and what He (Jesus) did to provide salvation for us.

When you repent, ask for forgiveness, and ask Jesus Christ to come into your heart, you are taken responsibility for your actions. You're admitting to God that you are a sinner and you have commited sins and that you are needing forgiveness. Most people are at a low point in their life when they are convicted by the Holy Spirit and that's when you are open to ask for forgiveness.

Legitimate question.
Saved from:
- sinful nature.
- having to pay the penalty/price (ie. going to Hell)
- influence of evil/sin in our lives. (by living by the Holy Spirit, not by our own desires)
the thing most people don't seem to understand:
- No matter how good of people we may be, unless we accept Jesus as personal Lord and Savior, and live by his standards (obey him), we are in actual fact "born into sin" and inheritly have (because we are human) a "sinful nature"...and thus, are subject to the whole hell and brimstone thing...
People don't like to think of that way, because "hey I'm not a bad person..."
it has nothing to do with being a bad or good person. We're all sinners irreguardless. We are ALL in need of Salvation.
It's our CHOICE if we accept Christ or not. It's our CHOICE to admitt we're sinners in need of Jesus. It's our CHOICE to accept/reject JESUS as Lord and Savior (the whole surrendering our will to him, repenting, and obeying his teachings thing...)
Hope this helps.
God bless.

"SAVED" from eternal damnation.
All are in a state of sin. Humankind is not able to bring forth the ability to be sin free. Never on this earth as we know it. Therefore, in order to be able to come before God, who is sin free and holy, we have to be made clean. We are made clean ONLY through the sacrifice of Jesus, which he freely gives as a GIFT to those who ask and have faith in him. Our responsibility is our own choice. That choice is to become clean through Christ Jesus, or to not. There is no in between and no other way. You are either for God, or you are not. Humankind is not capable of being without sin.
