Isn't it strange how the number 4 seems to pop up everywhere disproportionately in our society in contexts where any other number would seemingly be just as good? Why 4? Cars have four wheels and most of them are 4-cylinders (well, outside North America), buildings and architecture are based on rectangles with four corners, university studies last 4 years for a bachelor, the number "13" which pervades the US Dollar note numerologically totals 4, and the world's most successful car, the Toyota Corolla, has a numerological vowle value of 2x 13/ 4.
In music, you get the four as an important element, and in the Tarot, the four symbolizes the very thing our society is so great at - worshipping dead things.
Where can I read up on this? I'm sure I'm not the first to notice this stuff?

There are a number of numbers which are speculated be perfect or lucky or mystical. Four is not one of them.

I used to think 44/444 was some angelic visitation, and would greet the host everytime the numbers came up which was obscenely often. Then I was assigned a vehicle at work with the numbers 44. When I'm called over the 2 way radio, I'm 44. So, what happens?! It breaks down.....all the time, to the bogglement of the mechanics. So, there goes that belief.
It's still a trigger. You can check numberology. If that number comes in duplicate for you, just put that in your search engine. See what pops up. To me, it's code. I have many built in codes to read between the lines

The number 4 means Death or To Die in chinese, they regard the number 4 as a bad luck number just like the western people regard the number 13 as an unlucky number. On the contrary, the number 3 means Life or To Live in chinese. However, the number 3 is still not the most popular number among the chinese. The most popular number among the chinese is actually the number 8, which means Wealth or To Prosper. Although the number 4 means Death in chinese, but the number 48 is amazingly popular, becaue 48 means To Prosper Continuosly!

When you shank a golf ball you yell "four..I mean fore" too. Four strikes and you're out. ...Just kidding. I see you're point but I think the four directions play a part in things as does the sides of a square/ends connecting to the other forming different directions. Actually the number symbolizing perfection in biblical times was seven.

Works with any number, why not write a book about it.
Btw you do know that outside the USA degrees do not last four years, and that the Chinese consider 4 to be a very unlucky number?

There is no magic number dummy! You're just looking at all the random things that have to do with the number four! There are equally as much if not more circumstances that you can base your reasoning that almost any number is God's number.

Fascinating observations! Good on you. Now I'm interested too.
You should contact a Numerolgist..maybe online. I had my numbers read some years back and discovered my personality is No 4 and my birthpath is No 4. He told me that my address amounted to No 4 which is good for getting things done.

pi 3.14159 seems to show up everywhere as well.
it:
-is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter
-occurs in the distribution of prime numbers
-occurs in the probability that a pin dropped on a set of parallel lines intersects a line
-it appears as the average ratio of the actual length and the direct distance between source and mouth of a meandering river
-it is also infinite which is pretty amazing

It's also my lucky number.
But a number even more common in 3.14. Or pi. Or circles in general. It makes you wonder though. If our culture was different, would everything be shaped triangularly like the Indians?
