Arg: Demonology is a long, complex subject. Exorcism is a facet of that subject. Oftentimes; before one is diagnosed with "possession", the subject is firstly, examined by a Doctor (M.D.), a Psychiatrist then, a priest or minister of God. This eliminates misdiagnosed subjects, for the most part. Possessed people have a demon or demons in him or her. Demons are fallen angels. There are millions of them which walk this earth. They have a rank of order, with the most powerful ones being Arch angels. Demons demonstrate many different characteristics. Some are "snotty", some are intellectual, some are "spoiled", some are "cranky", some are "challenging" and "other" traits. Yes; there is a spirit world out there - no kidding !!! Have you ever, wondered why our nations are getting full of crime and "evil" in general ? Either, you serve God or you serve this demon-influenced system (you can't live in a vacuum). Some demons have travelled, possessing people, throughout history and take on the names of historical personalities like Cain, Hitler, Caesar, etc. Many people scoff at this but until he or she is confronted with possession either, personally or in a signifigant other - belief is no longer an issue. NEVER - NEVER open your self up to possession, through Satanism, witchcraft, seances, Ouija boards, drugs, spiritualism, etc. because what you once thought was a bunch of crap can turn out to be your problem. IT'S - NO JOKE !!!

I've seen the movie and it is based on a true story. It's hard to say whether she was possessed or not, but I almost think it is a combination of both. I really don't know... I listed the site of the real girl below.

I'm torn on this one. Having actually worked in a psych ward, seeing the endless power of the mind go astray and experiencing some unexplainable, supernatural things in my own life. I have to say, she could have suffered from both. When evil comes over you, some people aren't as strong to shake it off and i believe that after awhile , it opens them up for a multitude of psychological disorders, that can't be successfully treated, because they have no known cause of origin.

what was engraved on her headstone? "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling". so, does it really matter if she had a mental illness or that she was possessed. what was the story trying to express to society? "GOD is real and death will come to us all, be ready!".
you have to look deeper for meanings.think about what the situation (weather it be a movie or something else) is trying to really teach you.

It was never really determined because even though it showed that she seemed possessed but that kind of stuff has never been proven

she's on medication in the first place.
why would lucifer need a cloak? why would they be restricted to attack emily on 3am? why do evil spirits have a dark colored cloak? this doesnt make sense. at least it does when you attribute certain colors to evil.

Mental illness and I ain't a psychiatrist. My guess is that since she did seek help at first, it was tough to diagnose.

I think she was mentally ill. Probably some form of schizophrenia.
