I think polygamy may partly address the female infantacide in India and some other countries. Also modern man is mostly monogamous. This has adversely affected natural selection in human species. It has drastically curtailed differential fertility by restricting the male to produce children only from one woman, his wife. (Differential survival and differential fertility are the two mechanisms for progressive evolution by which genotypes which are more suited to a given environment will increase in relative frequency over the generations). Had it been not so, the most dominant man would have, and that is his natural tendency, produced more children in a number of women. So monogamy while giving social security to the fair sex has caused incalculable harm to the process of natural selection.

What we want is combination of both. Practise monogamy but produce the effect of polygamy by starting elite sperm banks for the benefit of the infertile couples facing male sterility. Simultaneously the state may legalise polygamy so that those who are financially rich and physically sound may be allowed to have more than one wife and that may indirectly reduce the female infanticide.

There is not one woman who I know that has ever felt a sense of social security with modern man. Look how many single parent families there are. It might be nice if it was REAL monogamy before you get the idea that man hasn't spread his sperm around enough. Seems we're over-populated and moving backwards in the grand evolution of things. Maybe it's time to zip it up and limit it.

Natural selection also is "survival of the fittest" and there's alot out there that wouldn't be here if science didn't intervien and prolong a life for it to carry on more of the defective genes to future generations.

Monogamy is a good foundation for a family as the parents can concentrate in the rearing of children unlike in polygamy when parental neglect is usually the result.

although it's against the law, I really find no reason for it to be. I think it makes a lot of sense. women out number men, men are promiscuous, women often need help after child birth. if you like a lot of children or if the population needs a boost, hey, ideal situation. I love women and have found it difficult to be monogamous in some situations, so it would be good for men like me. we would not have to stray from home to get the variety or change that we sometime crave.
