You may be hot (assume the indoor place doesnt have AC or it may not be working that day). Dark colors attract heat. But if you 100% sure there will be AC then black is ok. As long as you dont wear white no one will care.

Ok here's the deal... way back when, black was symbolic with funerals and somber occasions. However... now-a-days black is a VERY popular color. According to a recent poll by For the Bride Magazine... black was the 3rd most popular bridesmaid color for 2006.
If brides are putting their bridal party in black, then why can't people wear black to a wedding??
I worked in a bridal salon... and here's what we always told our clients... NEVER wear White to a wedding!!! (I mean white pants and a color shirt/sweater.. ok...) But should always be reserved for the bride...
Try to avoid wearing the same color as the bridal party.. if it can be avoided (if you know in advance)
We recommend Black for people who have no idea. Everyone looks good in black. It's slimming, elegant, and can be dressed up/down... and accessorized with color!!
The only qualms about it could be different religious views at the actual mass. So if you're that hesistant and there's alot of time between the ceremony and the reception.. how about wearing a cute two piece suit to the church... and then your little black dress to the reception. Changing outfits from the church and reception.. is extremely popular!!!
OK, hope my rambling helped!!

The most appropriate attire for daytime wedding is a light colored dress (not white). You may also want to avoid wearing the theme color of the wedding as the poor bridesmaids probably will be. It is okay, however, to wear a black dress if the wedding is being held indoors, at night, and the dress code is black tie. Have fun!

Old school style says so, but I've seen lots of people wear black to weddings now, because usually the nicest dress most women own is a black dress. So I'd say you'll be fine.

short answer--probable. If it requests formal dresses you would be superb. Or if her groomsmen are donning black tuxs.. If black is one in all her wedding ceremony colorings. the only time i'd problem approximately it would be an exterior wedding ceremony for the time of the day. maximum different circumstances are superb!! I wore black to the final 3 weddings i've got been to! I maximum actual become no longer the only one. it rather is starting to be further and extra hassle-unfastened. this is now no longer a cliche. 2 of my buddies have used black as bridesmaid dresses. you need to be superb as long because it meets between the standards.

If it's an evening wedding indoors, a black cocktail dress with colored shoes and accessories is quite tasteful...

If it's an afternoon wedding stick to a floral print dress..

I don't think there are any rules about color anymore and black is such a classic. I'm like everyone else tho, I would accessorize in a bold color to brighten and summerize it up a bit.
Personally, I wouldn't wear it because of the hot and humid weather down here in the south. I'd melt!

I don't think it is after all a black dress is a classic basic just make sure you pick a black dress that is suitable for the mood and weather (like don't wear a dress with a high neck collar or lenght goes to the ankles or long sleeved one with short sleeves such as elbows and up should be fine and the lenght above ankles) and always pick some accesories (its always about them) and some sandals and it should be fine =D

That depends on the style of the dress.
One that is old-maidish, then no. It would look like a funeral dress.
It shouldn't be too short and skimpy either. It would look too slutty,
A simple black dress would work. Maybe you could dress it up with gold or silver. I would avoid red, white, blue, purple to dress it up.
