Well, according to my Hindu friends, having tattoos of Hindu deities is offensive. Historically, the crucifixion was tattooed on the backs of sailors who wanted to avoid flogging. The area of where you're wearing the tattoo also matters - usually tattoos below the hips are sexual amulets so perhaps placing an image of a deity in that area would be highly unsuitable. Do more research.

I believe it can be considered blasphemous but also could be tasteful. It all comes down to your intention. Are you making a mockery out of this religious figure that you're tattooing on your body? Than it could be considered blasphemous to your OR others. If you do it in the right spirit you could put just about anything on your body and not have it be blasphemous. Some people say "Oh my God" for instance, when they're very angry-- thus making it blasphemous. While others say "Oh my God" and they're thinking of God in a good way in order to channel God. So, getting back to the tattoo here- it's all about your attitude and intention. What tattoo are you thinking of getting anyway (if you are actually thinking about getting one)?

I do not think that it is blasphemous. Tattooing is an art form. It is the same as buying a painting of a religious icon or wearing one on a chain around your neck. It is a very personal decision that should not be made lightly.

It depends on the religion. Some faiths have taboos against depicting a Deity in any form while others to do not.

Atheists don't consider it blasphemous and since we are the only ones that matter you don't have to worry for that reason.
But I would still discourage the tatoo thing. Cool when you're young but just think what it will be like on flabby wrinkly skin when you're 80.

No, but what you must understand is that when you DO take a tattoo (or name) of a diety that you are bringing into yourself the aspects of that diety, so research well before you take the tattoo and understand what energy you are taking in by doing so.

Technically it is, but no one really cares anymore. Get what ever tattoo you want. If it helps you and makes you feel more connected to your beliefs, it's no different than a charm on a necklace.

I would have to say yes to this one. That would be idolatry in it's purest form. Not the tattoo. The image of a Deity.
I'm a Christian.

I would advise against it. Why have something that might be seen as blasphemous. How could it be that important. When in doubt. Don't.
