I'm 20 years old, and ever since I was a young teenager, I've been having periods of sharp pain in my chest. When I have these pains, it only hurts when I'm inhaling. The deeper breath I take, the more this stabbing feeling in my chest digs. It usually only lasts around 30 seconds or so. I get them two or three times a day when I have them, but I'll go a month or so without having them. It's like the "spell" lasts for a few days, and then goes away. My mother blew it off as "growing pains" when I was younger, but now that I'm older it really concerns me. I'm overall a healthy individual. Sitting does not help, nor does drinking water. I just have to stand aside and take tiny, short breaths and wait until the pain goes away. Is there something wrong, or is that totally normal?

It could be pleural pain, aka pleurisy. Due to your age, I wouldn't be too alarmed. However, a visit to the doc is definitely in order to rule out any serious illness. Use the link provided to read more info. Good Luck

You're fine off going again to the specialists - if you are no longer relaxed seeing the equal health practitioner once more, see an extra one. You do not say whether or not this got here on with out a noticeable provocation, or for those who've been uncovered to whatever, or suffered any kind of influence to the chest. Even falling badly and touchdown at the chest may also be adequate to bruise or crack a rib - each are alternatively painful, exceptionally whilst respiring.

You might be having some heart problems like isquemia, which means that your heart muscle don't get enough blood (that carries oxygen) to be able to work as is should. One cause of it are spasm, which is that for some reason the coronary veins (the big ones that supply blood/oxygen to the heart muscle) gets constricted, other causes are atherosclerosis, smoking, circulation problems or obstruction, so the blood supply diminish suddently and the heart muscle "complains" with sharp, punctual pain and shortness of breath ( the heart muscle doesn't contract, thanks to the lack of oxygen to its muscle, consecuently your lungs don't get blood supply and thay can't funtion as normal, so you can't breath normally, everything is related). I am not saying that this is what you have but is deffinetly one of the causes of the symptoms that you describe. My suggestion talk to your doctor and get your heart checked. I don't mean to scare you, just to make you aware of one of the "bad" causes, so you will get check soon, get it? Hope it heps. Good luck!

Panic attacks perhaps? Have you had a thorough physical checkup lately? Sounds like you need to see a doc to get yourself checked out.
