Contrary to popular belief, Catholics are not "anti-hedonists", as some here claim.

The use of flatbread as a Communion wafer is an ancient tradition. Jesus, when sharing the first Communion meal, served unleavened bread. The meal was the Passover dinner, and the bread HAD to be unleavened. The lack of yeast represented the absense of sin or uncleanness in the sacrifice, and hence Jesus' sinlessness.

Donuts are full of fat and yeast/leavening. They are the epitome of indulgence, and therefore everything NOT represented in the Eucharist meal.

Just like the bread Jesus used during Passover at the Last Supper, the bread used in the Eucharist is unleavened.

The General Instruction of the Roman Missal, section 320 states:

The bread for celebrating the Eucharist must be made only from wheat, must be recently baked, and, according to the ancient tradition of the Latin Church, must be unleavened.

With love in Christ.

They could always just smash a donut hole.
It would be similar to a wafer....? maybe?

besides.. isn't it supposed to represent the body of Christ?
i think Jesus would taste better than a bland biscuit.

Not all donuts. The cream-filled are my favorite and they only have that little hole where the - mmmmmmmm - Bavarian cream was pumped in. And there's never enough Bavarian cream!

Is that a conspiracy? Are Bavarians Catholic? Are they out to control the world, one donut at a time? Is that where they got all that money to build BMW? Dang! It's just not fair!

Because donuts come in too many varieties, communion is only available in one flavor and if you don't like it it's too bad. But if you're lucky enough to pass Krispy Kreme or Dunkin' Donuts, go after church and it's all good.

Oooo, good question! Think about it though, something about 'transmorgrafing' a donut into the flesh of Christ just seems wierd. Ok...so it's weird that they do it with a wee bit of paper thin wafer...almost voodoo like.

yes donughts are holly food. just not the kind of holly your talking about. and they serve the bread because it represents the last supper where they served wine and pieces of bread

Catholics would feel too much guilt about serving such pleasurable food.
