I am at the stage in the process where Romeo is in his cat box on top of the toilet. He jumps up on his own without fear. However, when I lower the litter into a smaller bowl (that fits flush with the toilet seat), he doesn't know what to do. The space is smaller, and he gets so frustrated that he just jumps down without having gone at all. So I replaced the smaller bowl from inside of the toilet, to his box on top of the lid again. Any tricks to help him out?

Try bringing Romeo to the box more than once a day and turning him around in the space. If that doesn't work try taking the old box and showing him to it, then, RIGHT AFTER, take hime to the new 1 and show him the space the same way you showed him the 1st space. Take his paws in both boxes and dig the same way. This might be able to show him that he can do the same things with the new box that he can with the old 1 and if all else fails, you might have to try totally retraining him with the new box.

I have found the covered litter box the best no training and they do not get litter all over the floor.
