We have to die because of sin. Before there was sin there was no death. The effects of sin has gradually been degrading man until man can only live up to about 70 years.

However, one day there will be no more death! And when Jesus comes back He will raise up the dead people that believed in Him and we will all live together forever.

Isn't it wonderful?

For Christians death is merely a doorway to eternal life. So death is something we look forward to because it is only the death of our bodies. Our souls will live forever.

For those outside of Christ death is the unknown element all will face, and because we don't like the unknown in this life we are concerned about the life to come.

We start dying the day we are born. Perhaps you should have asked what is the purpose of life? Life on this planet is a preparation for eternity in Heaven or Hell.

Some will say they don't believe there is a God, but everyone knows there is a God on their death bed or immediately after.
The Bible says, "The fool has said IN HIS HEART, there is no God." Notice it says in the heart - not just the mind. Everyone
knows there is a God because the Bible makes it clear in Romans Chapter One verses 19 and 20 that God has put the knowledge of Himself in every person so that nobody will have an excuse not to believe in Him.

Death will hold no wonder or fear for you if you know Christ as your Saviour and Lord.

Death has been personified as a figure or fictional character in mythology and popular culture since the earliest days of storytelling. Because the reality of death has had a substantial influence on the human psyche and the development of civilization as a whole, the personification of Death as a living, sentient entity is a concept that has existed in many societies since the beginning of recorded history. In western culture, death is usually shown as a skeletal figure carrying a large scythe, and sometimes wearing a midnight black gown with a hood.

Examples of death personified are:

In modern-day European-based folklore, Death is known as the "Grim Reaper" or "The grim spectre of death". This form typically wields a scythe, and is sometimes portrayed riding a white horse.
In the Middle Ages, Death was imagined as a decaying or mummified human corpse, later becoming the familiar skeleton in a robe.
Death is sometimes portrayed in fiction and occultism as Azrael, the angel of death (note that the name "Azrael" does not appear in any versions of either the Bible or the Qur'an).
Father Time is sometimes said to be Death.
A psychopomp is a spirit, deity, or other being whose task is to conduct the souls of the recently dead into the afterlife.

Because the just as the law of supply and demand determines value for a comodity. Death places a limit on living it gives value to each and every moment of life. Without death what would a minute be worth, an hour, a year, 100 years they would all be the same worthless.

Good Lord are the christians still banging on about Adam & Eve? I thought that story was well and truly dredged from the waters... I think we have to die because you can't possibly allow these nutters to go on forever and God can only take 80 years or so of there gobbledygook at a time.
How many thumbs down do you think I will get?

Death was not part of the perfect creation. God warned Adam and Eve that if they gained the Knowledge of Evil they would die. God intended them to live forever but they disobeyed and introduced death into the world.

Hi, in Genesis 2:17 God said to Adam you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil... if you do you will surely die. Because he did eat from the tree which gave the knowledge of good and evil, he had to die because God didn't want Adam or his descendants to live forever in this imperfect state of illness and disease...so the body dies and the soul and spirit live on until the Resurrection and we will receive new bodies. From death comes new life...hope this helps...to me it tells me how much God loves us, that He has given us a way to be restored...~~Shalom~~

For the same reason we have Births, it keeps over population down, but the balance is very delicate, and with modern science, and medical improvements, the average lifespan is growing longer, so population growth is on the increase, we may have to, at some stage, control the amount of births.... Esoterically, its a way for the Soul to intigrate what it learnt in its previous life, before it goes into another life/body, in a different sex, and in a different race and culture possibly, its the Ying and Yang, the cycle of life...
Blessings.

We drop our body like an old jacket and ascend into glory.Paul said "Out of the body is to be at home with the Lord".
Now that is for the Christian. We died when Adam ate the fruit in the garden. Our body and soul are alive but our spirit is dead. That's why we need to be "Born Again" it wakes up our spirit and allows us to live forever.

Disease and suffering came to be when Adam sinned. People used to live for hundreds of years but sin changed all that. We grow old and die. Christ came and died to remove the penalty of sin, but He did not remove the shadow of sin which continues to cause death. When we are resurrected, we will overcome death.
