If I steal a movie using a torrent downloader it is sin I understnd this.
But how is this the equivalent of murdering someone or molestinga child?
I hear all the time that all sin is the same. I dont quite get this.

You ask a reasonable question which is driven by a deficiency of English. In Hebrew, there are at least 4 different words for different types of sins, and even those types 9and there may be more) are qualified by the type of law that that type of sin broke in its own particular way, so the combination of type of sin and law broken and way it was broken leads to many different ways of dealing with that sin. In English, we have more than the word sin (transgression, crime, overstepping, mistake and more) but no one uses them so the distinctions have not been established.

Goodness, some of the people here seem never to ever read the Bible! (others do though haha)

The wage of sin is death right? So no matter what sin you do it will be payed with death. That makes them all the same.

Jesus came to die for our sins. That means that they have all been canceled out. Not just the ones we have done but also the ones we will do in the future.

So the actual sin is not the sin because it has been rubbed out, it is not confessing it and believing that Jesus has payed for it. Are you following me here?

In the older days slaves could be set free if they or someone else payed for them. Jesus did that with us, he payed for our freedom. Not accepting the gift of salvation is as if you did not believe that you were a free man but carried on working like a slave, even though you were free. So for every bad thing you do in the slave camp you will be wiped. As a consequence of doing something wrong.

When you do not accept that Jesus saved you than all your sins are cast once more on you and you have to pay for them. Because you decided to stay in the slave slave camp and get punished for every bad thing you do when you could just walk right out. Get it?

Or: Ask the Holy Spirit to show you why they are the same. Sorry I know I sound really preachy. hehe. I`m only 14 but if you want to survive as a christian in this world you might as well know your stuff.

I understand what you mean, I mean to me killing is worse than stealing for example. But that is in our (human) eyes. You either follow God's commandments or you don't. And if you don't then you are a sinner. We all sin because we are humans, and even if you even just think and don't put into action, you've already sinned. Because it began in your mind, we don't even realize it most of the time. Just think about how many times you've thought about doing something wrong, even if you didn't go through with it. This is why you should as often as you can pray through out the day, wholeheartedly asking for forgivness and guidance. The level of sin is irrelavant.

It isn't.
There are really two types of sin.
1. Inherited. This type of sin there is nothing you can do about EXCEPT, rely on the value of Jesus sacrifice to cover it over.
2. Practice of sin. This type is what we can do something about. We do not HAVE to steal, commit adultery, etc. So, thes things, with God's direction, are controllable.
As regards your comparisons? Yes, some sins that are practiced are more heinous, yet they still have the same net result-death.
You see, there are no varying levels of death. You are either dead or alive. No in-between's.

It was made clear in James 2:10
For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Here it is as New International English

James 2:10

For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.

ALL TEN PRECEPTS OF THE TEN COMMANDMENTS ARE TIED TOGETHER INTO ONE LAW.

Only humans make a distinction between slightly bad and terribly evil. God says breaking any law is sin. It is the spirit of rebellion and applies no matter which of the laws you decide don't apply to you.

All sin is an abomination to God.
Man puts different levels of severity to sin.
God sees it all the same.

Do a word study on the various forms of "abomination" in the scriptures, and you'll have a better idea why.

breaking any of God's laws is committing a sin. Sin separates us from God. How great or how small, a law is broken which need forgiveness. All sins are forgivable except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

All sin is not equal.

"Sin" is turning away from God's way of life. In this sense, all "sin" separates someone from God.

Individual crimes, on the otherhand, are all different. The "Law" (as presented in Exodus, Leviticus, and Deuteronomy) even describe different penalties for different "sins".

Sinning is literally missing the mark. If you are aiming an arrow at a rabbit and miss, it doesn't MATTER where the arrow actually hits. A miss is a miss, and you are going hungry tonight if you keep missing.
