Is an Athiest one who does not believe in God or any deities...yet do believe in an " Energy " or " life force " of sorts ? To believe in ' energy ' would be the believe in a person's soul.

To not believe in the ' Sun " itself...yet does acknowledge and ' believe in the rays and ' energy ' source that is stemmed out from that sun ?

My understanding is that an Atheist does not believe or doubts the existance of God. Yet does an Atheist believe in the essence of our souls that are within us ? And where does an Atheist believe that ' energy ' essence of our soul's stem from ?

I'm simply Spiritual...of not faith or religion...yet, respecting of all.

Really wondering this concept of what an Atheist believes.

Not of necessary importance to know...yet...I have great curiousity to wonder of.

BTY...not seeking answers form " Bible thumpers " who are out to save all...no disrespect intended...simply seeking focused answers to this question. Thanks.

"Rlrose"...I don't ' believe ' in a higer source for the sake of gaining ' points ' to be in a ' favored ' line. I also...simply live in the Now...and relate to others in a caring way...simply because. Not for any ' points ' to get anywhere in the " hereafter ".

" Aurora " . . . I liked your reply...And...it leads me to ponder of what " name ", simply for sake of conversation, ones (as you and I ) that you mentioned would be ' called ' ...for conversation sake. I think that's why I use the ' name ' of Spiritual. I'm going ponder your thought. Interesting.

" mdmagicm "...where can the ' energy ' of the soul be ' seen ' ? It's seen in the emotions felt from a smile, warmth, heart surge of Love. My speaking of the sun's ray's was an analogy of something that is felt...yet not seen..as in Love, emotions, warmth of smile . . .

"Weemary(anne)" You asked is I could define Spiritual ? I'll share personally what it means to me...People seem to desire ' labels ' for understanding...yet to me being spiritual is that I am OF the One Light Source...being from that Light Source...I reflect the ongoings in my life because I'm a soul living a human experience...my reflections are choices made (free will) and my feeling the connectness of being of the One...I feel natural to be living in the Light (decenty and goodness). Spriitual to me simply means..." being "....What is authentic Love ? What is the warmth expressed from a caring smile ? To me that is being Spiritual.

There's a short answer to your questions, and there's a shorter answer.

The shorter answer is: Atheism is simply lack of belief in any god or gods.

The short answer is: Most atheists (though not all)don't subscribe to any belief in any supernatural or mystical phenomenon. So, no souls, no energy, no universal consciousness.

An Atheist does not believe in a god of any kind. I am an Atheist. I do not believe in a soul but I have had an experience that has opened my mind to the idea of an energy of some kind. I also know a few people who are Atheist or Agnostic with similar experiences. Most Atheists do not believe in anything supernatural. I used to be the same way.

We have no souls.

We were not here before we were gestated in our mother's womb, and we will not be here after our hearts stop beating and our brains stop receiving oxygen.

Theists believe in gods, one or many, and non-human messengers who bring the god's message to a select few, whether in the form of a burning bush, a winged being or a talking animal. They being the contact, never seem to have the original tablets, but they usually write some or all of it down.

Atheists, as the word implies, do not believe in gods or their non-human messengers, nor do we trust the contact who claims to have received the message from the god(s) which was dropped of by the inanimate or supernatural being, and the idea of the whole thing is such an obvious scam that only a fool could fall for it.

We know when we are being lied to.

Does not really believe in the concept of what you call a soul. You say a soul is energy. That is very vague and means little if anything. You use the analogy of the sun but that is different since the sun energy is visible (in the form of light) and proveable in the effects the unseen rays cause (gamma rays, x-rays, etc). Exactly where and how can you see this soul you speak of?

Well, being an Atheist, this pertains to me :P
I do not believe in God, in the actual idea that some big guy is up there making human beings or did at one time. It seems somewhat fictional to me, though I'm sure other Atheists have different reasons.

I believe there is a 'force' that creates us all - like you I am not religious but more so spiritual; I am considered an Atheist but do not label myself one, I just do not believe in Him. Most Atheists believe there isn't one, but there is no name for those who believe there is one just not worship him... if there is please tell me!

We are all made up of a force, whether it be scientific or spiritual, that makes us who we are. I believe we were all made through scientific means...

Hope that helps!

Energy in the form of the sun's rays is a much different concept than that of a person's energy. One is scientifically measureable (sun's energy in the form of heat), but despite their best efforts, science has yet to prove or measure a person's soul.

I'm not spiritual and I don't believe in gods of any sort. I believe in people, right or wrong, evil or good. I believe in being moral and ethical in all of my dealings. I believe we must live for the here and now and not waste our time and energy waiting for what is to come after we die. By then, it's too late to live.

Atheists are simply people who don't believe in God. So technically someone who believes in spirits but no God is an atheist.
But most Americans and Europeans think of a Secular Humanist (no God, ghosts, spirits, or anything supernatural) when they hear "Atheist". In fact, Humanism is so prevalent among atheists that most Atheists don't bother refining the point to what kind of atheist.

I believe there is some force out there, everything had to start somewhere, however i choose to think of it as a collection of matter or some scientifical force rather than a person like me sitting in a chair creating worlds, killing people, and damning them to hell.

As for your question i would be an Agnostic atheist, because i think something is out there, and i have no idea what it is, however i do know that it is not a "person" sitting up there.

An atheist by definition does not believe in any god. Most of us don't believe in anything supernatural, but you can't make blanket statements on that.

Science has looked for evidence of an energy called a soul and has not been able to find it. I don't see any reason to think that there is any such thing.

An Atheist does not believe that there is ANY higher being. Atheist, in general, believe that we are responsible for our own fate. We determine the outcome of our own lives. Some of the really screwed up ones are more likely to believe that everybody else in the world is to blame for everything that goes wrong or right in their lives. LOL. Overall, they just don't believe in any greater power.
