All DLP TVs use the DLP chipset from Texas Instruments.

However, they may use different video processor technology.

Be warned that DLPs are cheaper to buy, but you need to replace the lamp every 1,000 hours or so, and that is about $200-$400. You obviously want to buy a big size TV (50" or larger) otherwise LCD and Plasma are now very competitive. and provide better picture. You can even buy a 1080p DLP TVs these days.

(Note: All HD TVs are now at minimum 720p/1080i.)

Go to www.cnet.com they have excellent reviews for all types of TVs.

I have a 65" Mitsubishi dlp and am very pleased with the features. You should be able to get longer than 1000 hours lamp life. the key is to not turn it on and off a large number of times a day. The set I have has a feature where if you accidentally turn it off (hit the wrong button on the remote) then you can turn it back on within 30 seconds. I guess it is really a case of you turn it off and it doesn't go completely off for 30 seconds. The bulb is expensive, so I would suggest you purchase the extended contract (5 years) this contract will cover the bulb during this 5 year period most will only allow the replacement one time but the cost of the contract is not much more than the cost of the bulb so you get full coverage for a small amount. happy shopping
