I have a VW Golf Mk3 CL. When I step on the brakes, the signal blinkers stop working or blink very slowly. How do I fix it?

More than likely the ground on your taillights, brake lights and/or turn signals. VW brown wires are ground. Check connections to ground and clean. This might include removal of the turn signal lens and housing.This might also include removing the screw or bolt and cleaning contact surfaces with a small wire brush or sandpaper. Check also the contacts inside the bulb receptacle, make sure they are corrosion free.

It is usually a bad earth. make sure the lights are earthed to the body of the car. Whatever is going wrong it is using something else as an earth,and needs a proper earth wire.

Both of these answers are possible -- I had an audi and the lights would go apeshirt if one bulb was burnt out.

However... a bad ground will do the same thing. Check the bulbs first.

Like everyones said it'll be a bad earth somewhere. you'll have to chase the wires to find the bad connection.
If your not mechanically minded any garage can easily do this for you, or if your worried about the cost of them chasing wires, run a new earth wire to your lights.

You have a bad earth somewhere on your car.
