I'm looking to start college and get a degree in photography. I have previous experience in a studio setting. I need something that doesn't cost to much but is a good starter camera and of course I want it to be digital.

Canon Digital Rebel XTi is pretty much the standard for an entry-level SLR these days. If you have more cash, I've heard very good things about the Nikon D200 and Nikon lenses are really outstanding.

You might want to check with whatever colleges you're looking at to see what they're using. A friend of mine is minoring in photography and she still does quite a lot of traditional film work.

There are three classes of digital cameras and brand names are more a case of personal preference than common sense.
The three classes are: Consumer: View finder cameras with fixed lens in the under $300 price range. The Prosumer class: DSLR cameras in the under $1000 range and the Professional cameras in the over $1000 range. As an x-pro now only as a hobbiest, I use 4 cameras, a Miranda SLR film camera with an array of accessories, a Pentax DSLR (in the $700 price range), a Toshiba viewfinder type in the under $150 range and a NISIS slim spy camera (doubles as my web cam. too) that was in the under $100 range some time ago. The thing I like about my Pentax is it shares much of the accessories from my Miranda and comes with far more bang for the buck than it's higher priced counter part Cannon's, Nikon's, and Olympus cameras do.
