So we had guest in our home yesterday and my mother used the restroom downstairs. A guest went in to use it later on and came right back out. I went in a little after to see what was wrong. It reeked! So I lite a scented candle that was already in the bathroom. Told my mother later that she should have used the restroom in her bedroom or lite the candle. She got MAD and told me I was RUDE. And she can use any bathroom bc she pays bills. Who was in the wrong here?

Both of you were in the wrong here, she should have done something to make the sell go away knowing you have guest and her being your mother and the OWNER of the home you shouldn't tell her which restroom to use...just apologize sure she'll get over it!

no, you were not rude. your mother was. when we live with other people and they have occational company, everyone in the house usually takes part in trying to make the guest feel comfortable.

also, when I am having company, I light candles in the bathrooms before the company arrives, and leave them lit throughout the visit, in case of this (perhaps a guest might need to go too.)

As long as you didn't say anything to her in front of anyone. **** stinks, there's nothing we can do. Your guest walked out and didn't say anything cos there's no point. **** stinks. You may have hurt your mother's feelings, and that's not very nice. Tell her you're sorry and keep candles and air freshener in all your restrooms so it won't be an issue again.

You should have mentioned for her to lite the candle. NOT about using another bathroom.

I hope you told her this in private, and not in front of people.

Just light the candle next time.

I say, you didn't need to say anything about it to her. Especially if it was infront of your guest. You did say it was later on... so I assume that you said it to her in private. I would think that you could discuss this with your close family members. I know my mother and I know that she could have taken me saying it to her. Your mother is obviously a person that will take offense. So, now you know to keep your mouth shut in the future. What goes on in the bathroom STAYS in the bathroom.

RUDE? No, that's not rude. Stinky is stinky. Any person in their right mind would light a scented candle if a room smelled like crap. The only thing would be for the person is maybe a little embarrassing, but its not being mean to the person.

Just light the candle and keep your opinions to your self, it is your Mother and whether or not she left an undesirable odor, is not something that needs to be brought up. sorry man respect is the name of the game....

What set her off was you telling her to use her own restroom in her bedroom. You should put a can of air freshener in there with a note that says "AIR FRESHENER - Don't be afraid to use it".
