Let’s say we build a big spaceship and we set off towards the nearest likely destination knowing that it will take a long time to get there and knowing that the present generation ship population probably won’t be alive long enough to see their destination. If the occupants are aware that they are just keeping the population ticking over until they get somewhere, this probably wouldn’t be a productive living environment for humans. So would religion be a good way of keeping them occupied?

I have news for you. You are already on a big spaceship. However if that is your view of the nature religion, it wouldn't do you much good wherever you found yourself to be.

*sigh* placed down the Silver Ravenwolf teen witch nonsense and step faraway from the e book. Witchcraft and conjuring have been around for hundreds of years in the previous Gerald Gardner invented Wicca. Wicca is a twentieth Century faith, this is no longer historic, it is not even a reconstructionist faith, because it takes from Anglo-Saxon and Greek religions. A prayer is a form of a spell, like it or no longer. Ask God or Jesus or whomever for something and get it and you have executed a form of a spell, like it or no longer. So ignore all that demonic rubbish from the Born lower back and Pentecostal crowd. human beings from all forms of religions do spell artwork. in case you do no longer understand what you're doing, in case you purely sense you could say the words with out becoming one with the spell, while you're gripped via worry at doing something "spooky" and forbidden, it won't artwork. you do no longer might desire to be Wicca to be a witch. yet you do pick skills.

Mans present intellectual understanding regarding religion would not be able to function without it, so it's purpose will always be there even when we reach interstellar transport, man will never let go of the concept that God is in control hear on earth or in outer space he will always be in the hearts of men.

It's of no use now and definitely will be of no use when/if we conquer space travel. All it's good for is dividing man and causing wars. We need to do away with religion and currency and then mankind could finally begin working towards a common goal and actually achieve something truly extraordinary.

First of all, why would you want to occupy your travelers with religion of all things? Religion has been at the root of bloody wars and most destructive and illogical human behaviors since its ill-founded inception. Study history for goodness sakes! Religion is illogical and it truly serves no purpose other than to enslave people to false belief and doctrine.

Well according to the bible in the beginning there was nothing God created the heavens . So i would assume that all interstellar races have an idea of god but maybe just interpret it a bit different ..

Religion holds the same importance on Earth as it would in Space.

Sure it would you couldn't have a space colony without bigotry and religous fighting. you dont think the Pope would miss the opportunity to stake a claim in the name of catholicism and the muslim clerics would not be missing out either and then there's George..

Earth DNA doesn't have star ships in it.

However, if it wasn't for the fictional satan character the Bible would only be 2 pages long and end with the words
"...and God created Eve for Adam and they lived happily ever after. THE END"

You'd be just as much a stupid *** in outer space as you are here on earth, so if it's a choice for earth, by all means go. Idiots like you leaving this realm would be an act of mercy for the rest of us. Here comes Major Tom now. See ya!! Good riddance!!
