I am trying to cut out as much high fructose corn syrup from our diet as possible. Does anyone know if there are carbonated sodas in the U.S. that are not sweetened with high fructose corn syrup (not diet soda)?

Yes there are many varieties check out the natural foods section of your supermarket or the nearest health foods store.

They have products made with natural cane sugar, very tasty too.

High fructose corn syrup is less expensive. In addition, it's a lifestyle issue. Americans are used to eating larger portions and in general eat unhealthier. Filipinos have different diets than Americans do and eat more fresh vegetables, fruit and seafood and their portions are different and food preparation is different. You are not *forced* to buy unhealthy products in the US..that is a choice YOU make. For example, I buy soda at Whole Foods which makes sodas made with real sugar as opposed to high fructose sugar. You should take note though, that the Philippines emulates America and their food culture is slowly shifting to more American foods. Their younger people have a tendency to abandon traditional food and way of eating for more fast food.

I just came back from a natural foods cafe and had their handcrafted soda for the first time. I am hooked!

Maine Root is the name of the all-natural soda. You can see their selection here: http://allnaturalsoda.bigcartel.com/

I've also found that mexican Coca-cola is very good also. It's sold in the glass bottles and made with cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup.

Coca-Cola sells Kosher Coke (made with real sugar and not HFCS) during passover in select markets. You could stock up when these are available. Call toll-free 1-800-GET-COKE. Other soda manufacturers probably also produce Kosher beverages for limited time.

Some ethnic grocers and markets in the US also carry Coke in glass bottles from Mexico. These are known to be made with sugar as well. However, I've noticed on the affixed paper labels (FDA requirement) of some recent Mexican Coca-Cola indicate that they are made with sugar/hfcs...

So read the label carefully.

Despite the label claim, 7up is not natural. According to the website, it contains high fructose corn syrup. Ick.

Check the natral food section of the grocery, a health food store, etc. One brand that comes to mind is Hansen's. (I think it might be Hanson's; I'm pretty sure it's the first spelling, though.) A few weeks ago, my husband and I went to Trader Joe's (a chan health food store with mostly store brands and is fairly affordabe and reasonable in price) and he found a black cherry flavored soda with natural sugars.

For awhile, I used to mix the carbonated water with regular bottled water because I wasn't used the taste of plain water. When the flavored got too expensive, I gradually weaned myself off it and just added sweetner to it. Now, since my pregnancy, I weaned myself off of that and drink regular water. (Except in restaurants where I still treat myself to lemon water with sweetner.)

I hope this helps.

unfortunately most sodas do have it in them. i am also trying to cut it out as much as possible and it's hard because I love soda.

7up is "all natural" now and doesn't have it. Glad you don't want to choose diet sodas because even though they don't have high fructose corn syrup in them, they are choked full of processed, fake sugars.

you could try looking in the ethnic foods sections of your grocery store. I know that there is a mexican soda that is actually really good and fruity but in a soda-y way (kind of like the feeling you get with grape or orange soda) and doesn't have hfcs (i can't remember the name though but i've seen it in pretty much every grocery store around...it's in glass bottles).

another idea is to drink juices...instead of sodas, i've started drinking a lot more juice drinks. welch's juices, juicy juice, walmart brand juices...none of these have high fructose corn syrup in them...they're all natural flavors and the sweetness is only from the particular type of fruit.

Most popular sodas are going to use the corn syrup because it does not quench your thirst and they want to sell more...

It is best to make your own "fresh" drinks...

You can buy carbonated water and add your own sugar and flavorings...

If you make your own, don't make too much at a time because some flavorings will spoil over time and not taste too good...

I used to make my own drinks.. add a touch of mint, or chocolate.. now I have no clue where my bottling machine is located.

Find your local tortillaria or hispanic market and if they have Mexican Coca Cola (or any soda) in bottles, you are set. It is made with cane sugar, not corn syrup. It also tastes a lot better.

"High fructose corn syrup" is "real" sugar. It's just a concentrated syrup made of sugars derived from corn.

Fructose is a big part of what makes honey, tree fruits, berries, melons, and some root vegetables, such as beets, sweet potatoes, parsnips, and onions, taste "sweet".

Too much of ANYTHING is bad for you, if you can really have a significant impact on your health by cutting out sodas that are sweetened with fructose, then you are drinking WAAAY too much soda!
