Is there ANY disease or illness that has been CURED by medicine?

Not helped to cope with, or prolonged life but a disease that has been CURED by medicine?

I would say technically there are too many to list...for example any infection due to a bacteria can be cured by antibiotics.

Smallpox is a disease that was eradicated frrom the Earth a number of years ago. If you'll notice, children used to be given vaccinations for it, but that no longer hapens because it no longer exists. There has been some concern, though, because the CDC in Atlanta and a laboratory in Siberia still have some of it growing in vitro, and there is a slim possibility that terrorists could steal it and re-introduce it to the world.

I understand your point... many of the things we do are treatments for symptoms but not cures for the underlying condition... ie diabetes, heart diseased, etc.

There are two separate categories... medical and surgical cures... infectious diseases can be cured with antibiotics... There are some cancers that can be cured as well (childhood lymphomas are a prime example) with chemotherapy.

And of course surgery can cure things such as appendicitis or even remove a cancer for complete cure...

So it's not quite as bad as it seems, but most of the common disorders are treated but not cured

There are different causes for disease and in the modern world , inoculations were developed for many (like polio) and children's immunizations nearly eliminated them here ,
But it is a very large and populated planet , so as people traveled from other regions , many came who never had the immunizations.
The people who got the treatments were spared the poxes and polio etc , but not everyone was treated .

vaccines prevent disease, anti-biotics cure infections, but a disease that has been wiped out totally, no, doubtful
