I have salem oak kitchen cabinets and we're trying to redo our kitchen floor with laminate flooring. Does my floor has to match my kitchen cabinets? Would it look weird if I went with something other than oak? I personally really like the very light maple floor. But I have a feeling it might not go together so well with my cabinets and my island. But also I don't really like the idea of plain oak either. Can't decide!! Please help!

The cabinets and the floor don't need to match unless you're planning on track lighting or something like that that highlights the two.

Light maple would look good in there.

I have light maple cabinets and a dark laminate floor in my 100 yr old house and I think it looks good! So I looked at my kitchen before answering this question and YES a light maple flooring with the oak cabinets would look good! Reason being "How boring all the wood would look as all the same color

no you can mix it up a little. dont go crazy with it though, a darker cherry helps set off oak cabinets in my opion. just get some samples of the floor and lay it on the kitchen floor and pick what you like best cause you are the one that has to look at it on a daily basis.

No, just find a complimentary color. Try your local home depot or lows for good color compliments. Or where ever you decide to perchase your laminent flooring. I myself prefer purgo flooring. its kind of like hard wood flooring but not. It also looks better and is easier to keep after

some places stores have samples that you could bring home with you and lay them on the floor next to your cabinets and see which one looks the best to you!

It's your kitchen, do what you like. Go check out the show rooms, magazines, design books. If it looks good to you it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, you have to live with it.

if the are exactly the same it might looks a little weird - i would go with something different as long as it is in the same family of color (like dont stain one with a blonde and the other with a cherry)

it won't look weird, just bring home samples and try out different things until something catches your eye. people do light/dark oak/hickory all the time.
