OK First of all, the old saying is "If your ears are burning, someone is talking about you". Has nothing to do with ringing ears. As for the ringing, depending on your age, it could be one of several diffeent things.
If the condition is persistent and chronic, then it could be a symptom of high blood pressure or hypertension. This would occur most commonly in adults between the ages of 50 and 65. If any of you who are complaining of persistent ringing in your ears, if you are currently taking medicine to control your blood pressure, you need to see your doctor because it isn't working.
If you are not taking medication for blood pressure and you are experiencing persistent ringing in your ears and you are between the ages of 50 and 65 then you should see your doctor to have your blood pressure checked. Especially if you work at a highly stressful job or are dealing with very stressful circumstances.
If you are nearing age 40, and you experience ringing in your ears persistently, then you should also see your doctor as it coud be symptomatic of a number of different conditions, including hihg blood pressure.
If you are under the age of 30 and you are experiencing ringing in your ears, then most likely you just had too much to drink last night.
One other possible cause, regardless of age, is Tinnitus. Tinnitus is a symptom rather than a disease itself, and it can be caused by a variiety of problems including problems with the inner ear, ear infections, as a side effect of some medications, and last, but most prevelant is a sharp blow to the head not severe enough to cause a fracture of the skull, but hard enough to cause damage to the cochlea or inner ear (cochlear concussion) on one or both ears.

For me, I've always had it, but more recently it has gotten really bad. Then I noticed my jaw would be sore. My sister, who is going through dental hygiene, used me as a guinea pig to clean my teeth. Before the actual cleaning they have to do a very thorough check up of all things oral. She placed her hands just directly on the joint that connects the lower jaw to the rest of the head and told me to open and close my mouth. She was rather surprised and asked me if my jaws had been sore recently. She said my jaw was popping (TMJ) {mild however}. This was what had cause the ringing to get worse over the past few months. If there are any kind of changes make sure you get checked out, it could be the sign of something worse...

I am not a doctor, but from what I've heard and read, Tinnitus, or ringing in the ears, is usually caused by damage to the ears caused by loud noises. I have experienced this myself, and can be annoying, but not serious.

that saying is not true like the saying your become more Mature when you fall down. and the saying if you bite your tounge someone is talking about you but personally i think it is just a myth. the ringing in the ear is nature it happens to everyone. their is no cure for it unforuntatly but i think the only thing for you to do is stay away from loud noises so the ringing won't increase i think thats what caused it in the first place.
-good luck

Well, because Yahoo Answers includes thousands of people i seem to have many similarities with some
i have your kind of problem and i really don't know the cause
Well, that old saying can't be true, health-wise
Our body doesn't react to somebody talking about you behind your back; not normal and proven
I think its stress-related or just a reaction
But other than that it should be normal

I have ringing in my ars and it's caused by my TMJ. There are several things you can do to help TMJ- which should help the ringing. The jaw excercises seem funny but they really do help. Your dentist can also make you a splint to help but they are usually pretty expensive. Check out the sources below for more info and treatment exercises.
