Tomorrow I will be taking a trip with a group from school for a project. I'm packing some medicines just in case I need them. (mild pain killers, pepto, acid reducer, allergy medicine) However I have some really bad problems with my knees popping out which ends up with me limping or on the floor. I have two left over meds from previous doctor visits about this problem, darvocet and lodine. Which would cause the least drowsiness, dizziness, and nausea? Serious answers please.

Lodine would be the best thing to take, It is a anti-inflammatory and will not cause the drowsiness that darvacet would cause. Have a great trip :)

Lodine is a drug similar to an anti-inflamatory for arthritis pain, also other joint pain. Darvocet is a mild narcotic. It depends on whether you are tolerant to it now and need a stronger medicine. Medicines such ibuprofren, tylenol, and naprosen, can be dangerous also. You will probably become nauseous if you take it too often. Tylenol is not good for your kindeys not to mention the other over the counter medicines. Of course these medicines also could cause liver damage as well. One important thing thatyou should pay close attention to is the mixing of these medicine OTC or prescrition. My advice would be to make certain that your new doctor is aware of all medications and why you take them , mixing medicines could have a toxic experience that might really be dangerous. It is always good to take your medicines when you visit your doctor, sometimes you may fail to remember all of them. Also allow the pharmacist to be able to counsel you of using your meds correctly and what effects and symptoms you should be aware of while using them together.. It also is good to use the same pharmacy as much as you can and if they find a interaction the computer would Red Flag it also. Have you been treated by an orthopedist? he/she would be able to treat you with the proper meds and possible physical therapy. Lodine would probably make you less drowsy but, Check with your doctor first and always remember to keep any medication out of harm's way when you go on your trip so that the children cannot get to them. You may be doing more harm to yourself by walking around for a long time or if you have many steps. If you do go be careful. You may want to carry several ice packs with you, the ones that chill after you break up the insides. Only apply ice for 15 minutes at a time and be sure to have a protective cloth under the icepaks. You also may consider wearing really good walking shoes for support.. My advice is to get the information you seek from a professional. I truly hope you enjoy your trip without problems or pain.

Iodine is not a pain medication so not sure why you have that. If you tolerated the darvocet well you can take that but a better choice would be ibuprofen or naproxen which are both available over the counter and can be taken in prescription strength dosage.

Ibuprofen can also make you bleed, but if you don't have any blood disorders I'm sure they're safe. If you're concerned about bleeding take Tylenol. The artist may have something to numb the area, you could ask. All pain killers are either prescription or OTC drugs, so if you're taking a pain killer, you're taking a drug.

Darvon (the narcotic in darvocet) isn't nearly as effective as two Aleve (sodium naproxen). However, if you have ever had stomach bleeding or ulsers, the darvon would prob. be better for you.
PS. the recomended dosage for Aleve is 1 tablet every 12 hrs., Maybe you should just try 1 first if you havn't tried it before. Aleve will not cause drowsiness, dizziness or nausea.

If you darvocet doesn't make you dizzy or nauseous, you may want to take that. However, the Lodine may be your best bet. If you stick with OTC meds, use an anti-inflammatory, such as ibuprofen (advil) or naproxyn sodium (aleve). Tylenol is not an anti-inflammatory.

Darvocet will probably make you drowsy and dizzy. Lodine
is ok if it helps.
Try over the counter anti inflammatories. Ibuprofen or tylenol.
I would suggest you wear knee braces or knee wraps.
You can buy them in almost any drug store.
They really do help give support!
Also call your doctor before the trip, for more advice.
Good luck and have fun!

Darvocet is a pretty strong pain killer, and it will not only make you drowsy, but dizzy and loopy. Iodine - isn't that a disinfectant?
I suggest anti-inflammatory over the counter medicine, like Advil.
