Most resturants use beef or chicken, vegtable stock or broth and thicken it with a 'corn starch slurry' . By mixing cold water [about 2 tablespoons with 1 to 2 teaspoons of corn starch ]then adding to liquid [ about 1 to 1an a half cups ]you want to thicken.Add a little at a time so you dont thicken too much and liquid needs to be hot not boiling .

First saute garlic, onion, add any meat or seafood you like, add stock preferably chicken or beef stock, put vegetables you like (put vegetables first that takes time to cook, and softer vegs on the latter part), season as needed. Meanwhile, dissolve a teaspoon of cornstarch in 3 tablespoons of water and add to the vegetables while is still boiling. Mix. Turn off fire.

That's it. It's just the cornstarch. When you saute garlic and onion, put a little bit of butter with the oil. It helps make it creamy.
