I'd buy a young dog then if you want something that'll be easy to train and is good with kids. I like mixes/mutts. (They typically don't have as many problems with inbreeding.) Labradoodles (a mix between Labs and poodles) are among my favorites. They are typically smart and great with kids. Try looking at www.petfinder.com when you're ready to own a dog. It will say whether the dog or puppy is suitable for children and if its already housetrained or not. I say a young dog rather than a puppy, because in my experience almost every puppy goes through a phase where they want to tear up the house when they're teething! Either that, or have a kennel for the puppy for when you leave it (and don't leave it alone for too long.) Also, if you get a young dog rather than a puppy, then you'll have a pretty good idea what its temperament is going to be.
Best of luck!

There is no "best dog". There is however a dog for every person although no dog will match you perfectly. For example: Maltese are generally classified as lazy dogs that sit on little pillows and get carried on their little pillow thrones. But my Maltese are hyper and my 4 lb boy Michi went with me for a run today.

Here's what you should.
Take these breed selectors.
Read up on each breed.
Pick your favorite.

Have fun with your new puppy.

P.S No puppy can be left alone without possibly destroying the house. If you want a trustworthy dog get an adult. Not a puppy.

Boykin Spanials are really good dogs, they usually get around 35 pounds, dont shed much, very little grooming needed, do good with kids, and really smart, they are pretty easy to train but have some drawbacks like all dogs. They also have GREAT personalities. Thats the good stuff

The only drawbacks i can think of are they are huntin dogs and dont do good if you have any birds, rodents rabbits, or any other small animal in your house.

I would TOTALLY recomend a Boykin Spanial to anyone looking for a good loyal dog.

A Golden Retriever. They are great with children and with some proper training will not wreck the house. They love their owners and other animals. They need exercise because they are hunting dogs. They are a loyal companion that will become your friend easily. They are picked as best family dog be the Kennel Club.

Ok. there are tuns of dogs to choose from.
If you want a big dog get a golden retriever! Those things love kids and they are well listeners!!!! Also they will not tear up your home!
And if you want a little dog get a yorkie! I have one and it is just great! It is the same with the big dog I told you about.
Well I hope I helped!
Good Luck!!

If you live in an apartment a poodle would be a great dog. If you have a house and yard a black Lab. Labs get along with other dogs, cats, children love them and they love children. Our Lab lets our youngest cat eat out of his bowl, he is so gentle and easy going, he is a joy. I can leave him in the house and he will not tear anything up.

the best dog to stay home and not freak out is a beagle... I personally don't like them, but I have a friend who has one, and her mom runs a daycare, and they say they're the best to leave at home alone,... and obviously good with kids, and from what I saw, their dog is very well trained and I personally don't think they could have trained a dog that would be too hard =)

hope that helps!

I've heard that boxers are really good dogs. I believe that if you get professional dog training then any dog can be great. I think it's when people lack the skill, patience and knowledge to train a dog they mess it all up, no matter what the breed is!!

Wes highland terriers (westies) are a very friendly dog, and really good with kids. It dosen't take to long to train and are a smart breed of dog. And they dont grow a lot so they stay small the rest of their lives. Good luck!

First one persons best type of dog may not be your best type of dog.

Second, unless you get an already trained adult, any dog is going to rip up the place if you don't train it and exercise it enough.
