Why oh why do atheists insist on these gross generalizations? Seriously, you don't like Christians to do it to you, do you?
Why does it have to be "evolution vs creation"? Nobody was there when God spoke the universe into existence. To claim that we know just how He did it is ridiculously arrogant.
Where in the world did you get the blanket and biscuit thing? I've never heard of any shadows on blankets or images on buscuits. Why do you suppose that every Christian has a blanket and a biscuit?
I think somebody missed his nap this afternoon......

John Marshall a professor at the university of missouri school of medicine wrote that "the basic claim of ID[intelligent design] is only that there is evidence of an intelligent cause behind the source of information and design found in living things, and that we can scientifically detect the evidence." But specifically the reason why Christians reject evolution and embrace Creation is because that is in the belief system of the Christians. While most Christians believe in Micro-evolution, many reject the microbe to man, Macro-evolution. Science is not the end all. And by that I mean it continuously changes. Eggs are good for you, eggs are bad for you. Really science has just scratched the surface of the truth. It use to be that scientists believed that it took a long long time to form oil. But now we know it can be formed in a very short period of time. A person can judge the age of the earth based on the "accumulation of dust on the moon" - 200,000 years. Or the "influx of tungsten into ocean via rivers" - 1,000 years. I honestly could give many many more from this listing that have many a varied dates for the earth. Natural selection reduces the amount of DNA(information) in a pool not increases. Say I have 100 people, 10 are blonde. They die, their and other's blonde progeny also later die. Eventually those with the blonde trait will be weeded out. Less information in the pool. The chances that life began from non-life, added more information (in the form of beneficial mutations), reproduction(of the good traits), and yet with such a wide variety of plants and animals... probably low to nil. Darwin said "'To suppose the eye... could have been formed by natural selection seems, I freely confess, absurd in the highest degree."' Now im not a believe in a biscuit or a blanket kind of a person - having special powers. So... to answer your last question, I'm going to say, "or what."

I affirm there is evidence that an intelligent designer must be responsible for living things. The intelligent designer doesn't have to be God....I'm not saying that...the intelligent designer could be Mr. Rogers for all we know.
the universe started as nothing. how does an atom evolve from nothing...it can't just appear-it has to evolve, right? How are we here right now? If we evolved from primates, where did chimpanzees come from? Lemurs? Where did the lemurs come from? and so on...all the way to reptiles and any other living thing to the begining of existence. How does a living thing evolve from nothing?...how do we evolve from zero? How does a heartbeat come from thin air? It doesn't. How else do you explain such a complex phenomenon such as a beating heart or a functional brain...we don't run on batteries. There must be an intelligent designer that can create an atom and have it able to form different cells to complete a complex form.
Oh...and if we evolved from some sort of primate....why are THEY still here?
Saying that everything was just here would be like saying I have the same chance of tossing a deck of cards and having them land in the shape of the Eiffel Tower. which would be impossible...especially if the Eiffel Tower did not exist. And who created the Eiffle Tower, none other than an intelligent designer.

The primordial Christian belief is that man is created by God in his own image and likeness. Man is a special creation which is in contrast with the view that man has evolved from a lower form of an animal, as what some scientist would claim. Though some evolutionary ideas are accepted by some christians, the thing about man evolving from lower forms of animals is a topic that they would not accept.
The typical evolutionary view would that be of a picture of a primate to hairy humanoids then to the straight walking homo sapiens. Scientist present fossils and relics as evidence but the view that man evolved from this humanoids is still a big debate and is not conclusively determined as fact.
Christians reject the evolutionary view mainly because it contradicts their faith, the bible and its verses. Christians are not close minded as you think. They just made the choice on what to believe in. Do you think they would compromise their cherished belief and just accept the debatable fact that men came from lower forms of animals just like that? What if they would say that incomplete dirty old bones reconstructed imperfectly could not be equated as powerful physical evidence? This topic has long been a tedious debate among christians and the scientific world.
I believe on the Christian creation theory because, hey I think we have powerful discerning minds to even contemplate on these matters as compared to an amoeba.

Hi:
You’ve hit upon one of the many contradictions about religion in general. As an atheist, I view belief in a supernatural power as unreasonable. It is a mystery to me why, 300 years after the Renaissance and Reformation, a vast majority do not believe in evolution, and still cling to the belief that the Earth was created 6000 years ago.
Of course, the great draw of religion is comfort, both during trying times and the irrational belief that someone is inferior because they believe something different than another.
Take a look at Sam Harris’ “Letter to a Christian Nation” for more insight. A much shorter version of some of the themes in that book can be found in Sam Harris’ “Atheist Manifesto,” which you can Google. One his main themes is that atheism is not a philosophy or a doctrine, but just a refusal to deny the obvious.

There really is no reason for a Christian to have a problem with evolution. If one studies biology, one will see that all living things are made up of the same blue prints - there are differences that make you a person and a sunflower a plant, but the problems come when one misinterprets and is quick to judge. It must be possible because there are plenty of catholic doctors. It's only a big deal for those who have too much free time and need to fill that time with picking on other people and confusing people. That's how they divide and conquer, look for a weakness. The bible is many things, but it was written to explain things that happened many thousands of years ago, and human kind has always been improving and researching science, so we're always going to keep searching for answers. Nature of the beast.

Well for me it requires a lot less faith to believe that God created everything after its own kind than to believe that at some point billions of years ago, for an unknown cause, something, crawled out of the ooze and slime and over the next billion or so years evolved into every species including man.
As for “Academics and scientists providing concrete evidence of evolution” no such evidence exists. There are indeed fossils… fossils of dogs becoming dogs and cats becoming cats, etc. However, that one piece of evidence that would prove cross species evolution in general and animal to man specifically… well “Staggeringly profuse evidence” just ain’t there. If it were we wouldn’t be having these charming little chats.

You're in a house of mirrors, my friend.
There is no proof for evolution, only "evidence" that can be interpreted either way.
What do we find when we excavate in the ground? Do we find the geologic column of Charles Lyell? Or do we find poly-strata trees and conjoining coal seams?
Answer: the only place the geologic column is found is in the textbooks
Do we find myriad transitional forms, or do we find all the kinds of animals in their final form.
Answer: All animal forms appear abruptly in the fossil record with no transitional forms ever having been found (including archeopteryx which is a bird)
Do we find billions of dead things laid down by water all over the earth?
Answer: Yes.
The earth's magnetic field has been observed to decline at a rate of 5% every 100 years.
Question: Why is there still a magnetic field?
The moon is getting further from the earth at a rate of 4 inches per year. It's slowly leaving earth's orbit. That means it used to be closer. 6,000 years ago it wouldn't have made much of a difference. Much less than 6 million years ago it would have induced tidal waves that would have washed across the continents twice a day!

Are you Seriously trying to say that ALL Christians believe some blanket/biscuit thing?
And just as another point not ALL Christians reject Science. We have different beliefs, not ALL Christians are the same..just like not ALL Atheists/Muslims or whatever are the same.
I believe in some theories that other Christians do not. We are individuals and I totally resent the implications that Christians are all the same. it's stereotyping and just plain untrue.

I'm Roman Catholic, strong Christian, and I have learned to see things from more than one point of view. I look at both explanations or beliefs before making a decision about something. I don't reject evolution. I take ideas from science and religion. Some times though, I have a hard time believing in people and turn to faith, for personal reasons. Look at more than one, or more than two, views of one subject.
