Not all puppies will right from mothers milk to dry kibble. Obviously there is a big difference between the two. Start with offering canned food instead. Take the puppy away from mom for a while each day so there isnt as much opportunity to nurse. If itll eat canned food, after a few days, try softening some dry food in water. Mix the softened food with some off the canned. Itll take a few weeks most likely to make the switch completely. But every couple days, increase the amount of softened kibble and decrease the amount of canned. Eventually, start mixing softened kibble with dry kibble and wean to that in the same way... What kind of puppy is this anyway. U said its been vet checked, but did they not anything about its teeth? Ive seen some small breeds that still didnt have all their teeth yet at 9-10 weeks old. If this is the case, stick with mostly soft food til it has all its teeth. Itll have difficulty eating hard kibble until then.

Now's a good time. I have a litter of 31/2 week old pups that I have just started on solid food to give Mom a break from the teeth! Start off with a little food mixed with water so that it is more a liquid than solid so the pup can lap it up (roughly 3 parts water/1part food). You may have to put a bit on your finger and let the puppy suck it off and slowly lead him to the bowl that way, once he gets the taste of the food off your finger, he should have no problem licking up what's in his bowl. As the puppy's teeth come out you can gradually add more food and less water. But keep him on the gruel as well until he is eating the recommended daily amount of puppy food. Good Luck & sorry to hear about "mom".

I usually started my pups at 5 weeks old on dry puppy food softened with warm water. Then I mashed it up with a fork.
By 6 1/2 weeks I no longer mashed it with a fork.

He may be able to eat canned food now. Put a litle on the tip on your finger and see if he licks it off. Just be sure that it is a canned puppy food. You should ask you vet they can give you the best advice.

Usually you start at around 6 weeks. Just buy Pedigree puppy chow and add a little water to soften it up..

Are you making the gruel with ground puppy chow? If you are positive he only has one tooth, you might wait another week but you should be able to soak the puppy chow in some warm water and it will swell and soften and then he can chow down....
