As one gear makes a complete turn, its circumference passes through the point of contact between the gears, which requires that the other gears circumference mofe by an equal amount. Since the circumference of a circle is linearly proportional to it's radius, if one gear is half the radius of the other gear, it must turn twice as fast. If it is 3 times the radius of the other gear, it turns one third as fast. As far as the rotational speed is concerned, it's just a direct ratio.

Torque, however, is another matter. The torque is inversly proportional to the ratio of the gear diameters. If the driving gear is one half the radius of the driven gear, the torque available from the driven gear is twice the torque supplied by the driving gear.

Power transmission between two shafts may be obtained by means of belt rope gear in belt or rope drives slipping of belt or rope may reduce the velocity ratio of the system. hence the precision machine where a definite velocity ratio is of importance the only positive drive is by gear gear drive particularly suitable when the distance between driver and follower is very small
