If you voted in the last election then you voted for the people who would make that decision. Nobody in Congress wants a draft. A Democrat proposed it but only to get the Republicans to openly state there will be no draft. It backfired in the Democrats face with Republicans saying "We are against a draft but what about your anti-war Democrats?" Because of this, the draft is on the young peoples' minds. The draft will not happen, it comes up with every conflict the US is engaged in.

Absolutely not. There have been plenty of news stories in the last couple years about military morale falling into the toilet as reserves are called back into action in Iraq and Afghanistan, as tours grow longer, as there is no clear definition of the terms of victory. Keep in mind that this a measure of what is currently an all-volunteer force. Imagine what happens to morale and hence productivity if civilians are forced into military duty against their will. Hint: It's not good. I can't imagine that the military would even want conscripted soldiers at this point for that very reason.
Also, drafting, training, outfitting, and paying soldiers isn't cheap. That's plenty of your tax dollars that could be much better spent.
Given the the administration's approval ratings and results of the last election (which were popularly viewed as a referedum on the current administration's policies), my vote wouldn't matter, because instating the draft would be resoundly rejected by the American public. And wisely so.

Without a DOUBT! HAH I will probably get violated again for hurting somebody's fragil feelings, but oh well.
First, I would NOT wish WAR on ANYONE! People die for the wrong reasons and it is basically HELL.
This is what I call a "Come to Jesus" talk so pay attention if you can get past your partisan and uninformed idealogy.
The draft age is made up of boys between the ages of maybe 18-30; this is also called "The ENTITLED GENERATION"; this is NOT my term but from a study done by social science geeks at UCONN and others.
This generation has been told how special they were from the minute that they entered this world and their education was based solely on building SELF ESTEEM! They have basically become a pain in the A** to hiring managers, but we have NO choice to deal with their attitude of self-imposed self importance. As a new hire, we really do NOT care what you think, because YOU have NOT learned HOW to think in an environment when you were NOT the CENTER of EVERYONE's ATTENTION.
This demographic lacks disciple and responsibility because they have spent their entire lve experiencing NEITHER; their parents were too busy making money and climbing the ladder to be REAL PARENTS.
A little time in the military might make a HUGE positive difference with this demographic; your SH** does stink!
I enlisted in 1962 at 17 in the Navy for a few reasons. See the world, get an education and get AWAY from my family. I was a marginal athlete, my grades sucked and there were NO junior colleges.
I didn't plan on Nam and I got fooled. I got a GREAT education foundation in electronics and operations and intelligence. I received leadership training and was able to EXCEL for the first time in my life. When was the last time you heard of an 18-year-old kid supervising people in a life or death situation? It happened to me, scared the SH** out of me and I survived.
It gave me the discipline to get a EE degree working 60 hours a week, a business degree and a partial MBA. I traveled the world on business, eaten in some of the finest places and I thank my military training for the discipline and responsibility that I have used through out my career.
Without it I would have spent my life as a grocery clerk in a town of 3,000 people and never known what I had missed.
Some people should get deferments for obvious reasons but it is generally a GOOD THING for the rest. Maybe you will finally realize that YOU are NOT as IMPORTANT as you have been taught and actually might just contribute something besides being a pain in the A** to the rest of us.
Hey sorry to sugar coat it....

Yes - although in the United States there are no popular referenda on federal issues.
I would also vote to directly raise income taxes to fund the war. The sacrifice should be shared by all Americans, not suffered just the families of those who volunteer for military service (although those families seem never to complain, bless them). I have heard it said that the President told Americans the best way to support the troops is to go shopping. What a totally ridiculous notion.
Anyway, bring back the draft and/or raise taxes and let's see who REALLY supports the troops and who just SAYS they do.

CONGRESS votes for or against it... we're a republic, not a democracy !!
A reinstated draft MIGHT get my support, but it would depend upon the bill introduced !!
Females MUST be eligible, No college deferments... and those with religious objections must serve in other capacities.
Ideally, I'd like to see ALL those who reach 18 serve 1-2 years in government service like the Swiss, Israeli, and others do.

I wouldn't, but, the argument for reinstating the draft is because it defers from war. Since we live in a democracy, and in a democracy "the people rule", the idea is that the people, who face the grunt of war, will not vote or allow war when since their children or themselves will be responsible for it.

only if every mother's son and daughter were drafted with out any kind of deferment. Also those that vote for war should send their family's in first so as to lead by example. Then maybe they will think before they vote.

I would oppose the draft, but it's not a matter of individual votes. Decisions like that would be made mainly by Congress.

As a victim of the last draft, I will always strongly oppose any effort to revive conscription in this country. If this country is in danger and we can not muster enough volunteers to defend ourselves, then this nation with it's soul sick society can and probably should fall.
