Why or why not?
I am inclined to believe that the false prophet the Bible speaks of will be a pope.

Wolfeblayde, you seriously need to calm down. I said I was INCLINED to believe it, not that it was set in stone. If you are getting this upset about some stupid, insignificant question, I feel really sorry for you.

Wolfeblayde, I have a right to ask any question I'd like on here and I have not claimed to know (or not know) anything about the Catholic faith. Again, I was asking a QUESTION, not making a STATEMENT. Huge difference here.
Your calling me a hypocrite doesn't seem to be a very nice thing to do when you don't know me or anything about me or MY faith. I haven't done anything to you to be called a hypocrite.
I don't think my question would bother you so much if you were actually SECURE with your faith.
As for the answer to my question, I guess we will have to see what the future holds.
Have a nice weekend.

The speculation about the pope possibly being the antichrist revolves primarily around Revelation 17:9. Describing the evil end times system symbolized by a woman riding a beast, Revelation 17:9 declares, “This calls for a mind with wisdom. The seven heads are seven hills on which the woman sits.” In ancient times, the city of Rome was known as “the city on seven hills” because there are seven prominent hills that surround the city. So, whatever this verse is referring to, we can know that it is somehow connected with Rome. So, if the evil end times system is somehow connected to Rome – it does not take much thought to see a potential connection with the Roman Catholic Church, which is centered in Rome. Numerous passages in the Bible describe an “antichrist” who will lead the anti-Christ movement in the end times (Daniel 9:27; 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4; Revelation 13:5-8). So, if the end times evil world system is centered in Rome, and led by an individual – the pope is a likely candidate.
1 John 4:3 tells us how to identify the spirit of the antichrist, "but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world." The current pope, Benedict XVI, acknowledges Jesus as being from God and Jesus as coming in the flesh (see 1 John 4:2). While we disagree with Pope Benedict XVI on numerous areas of Catholic doctrine, his view of the Person of Jesus Christ is very Biblical. Therefore, we do not believe that Pope Benedict XVI is the antichrist. We are not even willing to say that a future pope will be the antichrist. While we believe it is a possibility, the Bible does not give specific enough information for us to be dogmatic. A future pope very well may be the antichrist, or perhaps the antichrist’s false prophet (Revelation 13:11-17). If so, this future pope will be clearly identified by a denial of Jesus as coming in the flesh.

the anitchrist is to be someone that claims to be the new messiah. i can understand why some believe he will be in the position of the pope. when it is a good pope - look ay John Paul II - people from every denomination on earth thought him gracious, loving and of Christ. the listened to his words and he spoke (thankfully & as he should) of Jesus undying love for us and how without Christ we would be nothing.
the papacy, while adheared to by the Rcc, is something all denominations look to - not for instruction, but they DO follow and watch. i could see why the antichrist would think - being involved inthe papacy - a position of Christianity that allows him the ability to see and be seen would be a prized posession.
the only reason i do not believe the antichrist will NOT be the pope is because the pope has to confess and profess that Jesus Christ is His Lord & Saviour - he had to promote that to his congregation ( the whole Rcc). while, yes there are many lukewarm catholics (& christians) i do not believe for an instant that the Rcc denomination as a whole would renounce that Jesus Christ is the ONLY way, to listen to the words of a false pope.
while as an Rcc, i believe in the infalability of the papacy in matters of faith, if the pope were to ever contradict the teachings of Christ or the doctrines of the Rcc -- people would turn away. in the old days, before people were as educated as they are today (being able to read & conprehend the Scriptures) i could see where the papcacy would have been "ripe for the pickings". however now, there are too many wonderful spiritual leaders of faith adn scriptures within the denomination that would not stand for the abomination that the antichrist would preach.
God Bless.
PS - while some have said this is a negative questioon to blast the Rcc -- i do not see that as your intention. your question has been around WAY too long and is discussed quite often. IMHO, you were asking a sincere question and i thank you for doing it in a very "clean" manner -- no below the belt punches :)

Though i am Catholic, that are some Catholic people that believe a future pope will begin the end times and lead the world into chaos. But, most believe the antichrist will not be a pope and no one knows which religion he will come from.

The end of what "times" ?
The Catholic Church is 2000 years old. The planet is 4.3 billions. The life of the Catholic Church is insignificant in comparison with the life on this planet.

Would you care to offer even a shred of evidence to support your theory? Or do you just like to bash other people's religions for no good reason and without offering any proof of your accusations?
I am constantly amazed at the number of you who spew your hatred of my Church and my faith without bothering to find out what we believe and why we believe it. This kind of question just proves my point.
Edit:
You make some ridiculous statement about a faith that you apparently know nothing about, and then tell someone who loves her Church to "calm down." That's pure hypocrisy on your part.
And if your question is so insignificant, then do the right thing and delete it.

I believe so. The one world religion will need to be a compromise. No matter who is out there, when the Pope speaks about anything, people listen.
