Of the initial beginning dosage, 4 days worth of Zoloft is unlikely to assist in much of a noticeable change. It seriously, takes about 3 weeks before you begin to notice a change in your thoughts and feelings, and then 6wks. - 3mo. before it becomes fully effective to make substantive alterations in how you relate with the world and other people around you.
However, depressed people need to be aware that their current abilities to understand others and for others to understand you are limited. Therefore, you are likely to have less people willing to relate with you - friends - than the non-depressed person. The depressed person is also not able to achieve their potential, as it inhibits some brain functions, (math for example), and memory, you are less effective on the job than an equal, but non-depressed person.
Having been functioning in a depressed state for in excess of 20 yrs. And now on Zoloft, myself, I have no desire to return to the life of the miserable me, with limited ability to function.
You do have a choice. There is sunshine and laughter out there, available to you. How about calling the Doc who prescribed this medication to you, and chatting it over with him.

I dont know how much you are troubled mentally but if you were considered somewhat normal and not suicidal before zoloft. It is ok to stop taking it. I took Zoloft for a year. It is not very healthy drug especially people who are still young and healthy. Zoloft or serotonin reuptake inhibitor messes with serotonin metabolism an can cause long term effects that are now starting to show up. Unfortunatly many doctors are not aware of this. Anyways dont stop it cold turkey, I did, it was the worst experience ever, it might be annoying but take time to come off of it. Or if zoloft didnt really set in yet , you might be able to quit it semi-cold tukey.

I quit it cold turkey and I was fine. I didn't like the feelings I was having on it either. You should try Prozac instead if you keep having the probs that you were on Zoloft for. There are a lot less side effects in the new version and you don't get the major druggie trip when you first start it. I took both for panic attacks and I like the Prozac a lot better. I felt completely in control. Talk to your doc about it though cause it kinda sounds like the med course they have you on isn't working for you and you may need extra help with your problem.

I had no problems when I quit zoloft cold turkey. But everybody is different... Have you only been on it for 4 days? Because it generally takes at least a month for the pills to really work. You should really take the pills for a few months just to see how you like them. At least give them a chance. If you still don't like them after a few months, stop taking them.

after only 4 days i think you should be ok quiting cold turkey everyone is different though so it would be best to tell your doctor about it first.i think in the case of anti-depressants it should be more of a thing that is left up to the patient because it is up to you about how you want to feel.i took zoloft for about a year it had no effect at all of any kind so i quit cold turkey and didn't have any bad effects.i just continued on the meds i was already on with no problems

It's too bad you're not willing to face reality and live a full life. I understand it's scary. You aren't in control of yourself, though; your emotions and stifled psyche control you.
Wean the Zoloft down. Take a half dose for the next 2 days at least, then a quarter dose if possible for a day, then quit, if you have to.

Zoloft is a mood stabilizer. Why would you want to go back to feeling emotional numbness? Thats silly. You are still in control of your emotions while on Zoloft. Give the Zoloft time to work.If you go off Zoloft. It WILL only mess you up more to quit it. Trust me on this one.

Don't just quit taking Zoloft cold turkey! First, if anything, talk to your doctor about it. Then slowly, over a period of three months to six months, bring down your dosage. After nine months, you should be ready to completely drop it. That's what my psychiatrist is having me do right, actually.

You shouldn't have any problems after only 4 days. That's not enough for the medication to really get into your system and do any good. I've taken it for 5 years now and have no side effects. It just eases the depression. Good luck!
