Christianity teaches a whole lot of other things besides the fact that we are all sinners in need of redemption. Christianity teaches that we are to love our neighbors as ourselves, to be kind and merciful even to those who hate us, and to follow the compassionate and loving example of our Savior, Jesus.
And yes, without Him, we are deserving of Hell. Knowing that I am a sinner may hurt my ego, but trust me, we can all benefit from a little wake-up call in that department.
I don't remember which book in the Narnia series that this is from, but Aslan says something to the effect of, "You are sons of Adam and daughters of Eve. That is honor enough to raise the head of any beggar and shame enough to humiliate any king."
Like I said, a little reality check never hurt a thing.

You are looking too closely at the extremists. For the most part I believe that people strive to do better with themselves and their futures for fear of what death may have in store making them want to be a better person. Not all christian faiths thinks that we deserve an eternal hell. I'm an LDS Mormon (no not the polygamist ones) and I believe there will be happiness after death if we try to be the best we can in this life...not with successes but with how we treat/help others and how much we are able to learn and grow.

Because Christianity DOES make you a better person! It teaches you to be better at everything! And also, mankind does sin, every day, and only through Jesus will they inherit everlasting life.
OUCH! THAT HURT! That was a low blow! The rest of you guys, do you think we'll recover? I'll tell you something, I know more about the Bible than you'll ever know. And besides, to put down EVERYTHING us Christians know about the Bible, that would take 4ever. AND if we started laying it out for you, you would just turn your stubborn head the other way, and pretend you don't care. So what's the use??
Ok, so why do you keep insisting that i don't know anything about God? What do you want to know and I'll tell you?

I can't speak for Islam but for Christians, yes, it's true that we're sinners. That goes for the whole race. But we also know that we are forgiven and we have the power of the Holy Spirit to transform ourselves. We have the example of Jesus Christ to follow to become better people.
And as icing on the cake, the head of an athiest organization was forced to admit that of all the people reaching out to those in need, Christians were the ones most likely to be galvanized into action. He grudgingly admitted that we were morally superior.

Sorry, I can only answer for Christianity. We are sinners deserving of hell, but we are saved by grace through Faith in Jesus and what he did on Calvary. He died for our sins so that we can live a life of abundance in the Lord-I'm not talking material here, although many see it this way. I do not claim to be perfect, but my God is perfect, and I serve a God that loves unconditionally, even when we sin-that includes Christians and non-Christians. My goal is to study and worship so that I can learn the secrets of the heart of God. As I press in, I learn to love in a deeper compassion than I could on my own. If I aspire to love my neighbor as Christ loved them (although I know I could never love someone that much)how is that a bad thing? God is a God of love. The message is accepting His love through Christ, loving Him (the Trinity) and loving others. I know that many Christians do not think this way and believe that evangelizing is the thing to do, but the first commandment that Jesus spoke of was to LOVE the Lord. The second is to Love your neighbor. I feel that my religion makes me a better person because I follow the teachings and example of the greatest example of love (the sacrifice of Jesus). I hope this answers your question.

You questions reeks of gross oversimplification for both religions you mentioned, therefore I'll give you a grossly oversimplified answer: just because people will look for anything to make themselves seem better than everyone else, be it religion or politics or power, etc.
