I know some Christians believe that the church will become apostate and unified under one headship after the "rapture" and before the institution of the New Jerusalem. Where can I find information about this?

It will be the religion headed by the false prophet. It will be wrapped up in government (as seen in the antichrist) as well as commerce (as seen with the beast). No separation of church and state there. It will be all one.

Re 13:15-17
[The false prophet] was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed.
He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

Apostacy: the total rejection of Christianity by a baptized person who, having at one time professed the Christian faith, publicly rejects it. It is distinguished from heresy, which is limited to the rejection.

And how is this going to be a unified Christian Church?

2 Thess 2:3-4
that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
