If you knew that somebody allowed their dogs to lick the china so as to not waste anything (and then washed the dish after words of coarse) ? would you not eat dinner at their house?

not at all. Our dogs do it all the time. And, we do wash the dishes after the dogs...

NO I wouldn't eat there. That's so gross. Whether they washed the dishes or not, that's just wrong. They should have, if they didn't want to waste anything, scrape the plates into the dog's dishes, then wash them.

My husband and I have a little pug and sometimes I let her lick my plate. Then, obviously, I wash the dishes.
Our friends come over for dinner all the time and it never bothered anyone, I never saw it as a big deal.
As long as the dishes get washed I think it is not a big deal.

No I would not be appalled. As long as the dishes are washed afterwords I wouldn't really care. And yes I would still eat there. Now if they did not wash the dish afterwords, then I would be.

Appalled? No, I've done it myself with my dog when I had one and with my cats. (actually, now don't get grossed out, I will drink milk even after my kitten has taken a couple of licks.)
So obviously I would have no trouble eating at anyone's house who let their dogs lick the dishes before washing them.

That doesn't bother me in terms of hygiene, since the hot dishwater will kill any germs.

But, it does bother me in terms of doggie training. The dog probably doesn't know the difference between "dog food" and "people food" and will most likely beg at the table and/or sneak a biteful when the person isn't looking. It doesn't know the difference between its "doggie bowl" and "people plates." It has no boundaries. Also, some "people food" isn't good for dogs.

EDIT: I've even seen dog owners put their small dogs on the table to eat off "people plates" at public outdoor cafes. And then they get annoyed when the wait staff tells them to remove the dog from the table.

My guess is that if they're washing it afterwards, it's going to be clean anyway... I mean, if someone was to cut up chicken on a plate and wash it afterward, would you decide not to eat there anymore because there had been raw chicken on the plate? Now, if they just allowed their dogs to clean the plate off because they didn't want to wash it.. now that would be a different story :) heh

Sure would... on paper plates! I am serious - I would go as far as to offer to bring some take out food over, and of course, bring plastic utensils and the paper plates, this way, no one gets offended and you know that youre safe!

Put it this way, I am sure that a properly sanitized dish would present no problem, but its more a psychological than physical issue not to want to share a dish with a dog. Just my opinion!

I'd still eat dinner at their house.

They get washed, so its not like you are getting a dogs germs.

I would think dining out & using the dishes & silverware in restaurants is more disgusting.
