I think I have been depressed for about seven years. It used to come and go, but now it's always lingering. I've also been recently considering suicide(I'm not sure if that's related).I don't really know what kind of doctor to go see. Or even if my insurance will cover treatment if I need it. i need help.

If you are not comfortable asking friends or relatives for a therapist referral, a good place to start is with your primary care physician. They can even start you on some meds, then refer you to a therapist to talk with. Call your insurance to see how many sessions they will cover and their payment rate, even if the therapist you go to is out of network they can give you claim forms to get reimbursed.

Thoughts of suicide are common in major depressive disorder, you might have the common sense and willpower to disregard those thoughts for now but it will not get better without treatment so please get help ASAP.

Go to your own doctor. He or she can help you.
The suicidal thoughts are a symptom of depression. That's the part I hate the worst. I thought I was over them because I hadn't had any of them since March 24th this year, but because of a couple stressful days at work the came back on April 13th and 14th.

Ever hear of "Recovery"? It is a non-profit, self-help group of people from all walks of life, meeting on a first-name basis only, and discussion their individual fears and what they have done since the last meeting to cope with them. Everyone is in the same boat and no one looks down on anyone else.

See if there is a group in your area. There is a book called "Mental Health Through Will Training," by Dr. Low.
Amazon might have a copy.

Oh common it is not that real thing... you only need a person whom you can talk with..who can make you forgot about your depression..For example, a person whos sense of humor is strong...so yhat you always smile and you'll never search for your depression, but you'll look for that person who con help you and make you comfortable. let the depression look at you. Ok darling? Godbless

You can start off with your medical doctor and get a referral to a good psychiatry. The reason it is good to start with a medical doctor is because your condition could be medical verse mental.
