I think those who make the latter statement have little or no knowledge of God and His word. If you fear God - give Him His due honor and reverence and put your trust in Him; you need fear nothing else.
1 The LORD is my light and my salvation—
whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid?
Psalm 27:1

God has the power to stop Satan, no question. However when people talk about "fearing" God they are talking about respect.
Fearing, as in being afraid, isn't an option when you're on God's side. By submitting to God, the Devil can't control my life, and therefore I have no reason to fear his evil ways.
Satan, himself, fears God.

I actually fear God more. The Devil has absolutely no power over me. My salvation is sealed by the Holy Spirit. God is to be feared, because He has the power over death and hell. Besides in Proverbs it says: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom."

God, if you have the Holy Spirit living on the inside of you, you have the power to cast out demons, thus placing you in a higher position, having power over the devil, but only with the acceptance of Jesus, and God,and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

I don't fear either. They are products of other peoples' imaginations. What I do fear most are those people who think they are followers of God with the right to take control of the world, and hence, my life, with no more to substantiate their beliefs than an ancient musty book full of racist, murderous, and violent fairytales. These people are much more real than the God or the Satan that they fear.

That's a good question. The devil is so very active having his fun BUT he will and do what he can do if he is ALLOWED to. I fear God because I deeply believe God "IS" and he will come and take what is "His". If one accepts GOD AS THEIR "LORD AND SAVIOR" , they will have everlasting love with an everlasting life, HOWEVER we always have to be alert, strongwilled and determined to stay faithful. GOD IS NOT LOOKING FOR PERFECT PEOPLE. But a people who will praise, worship and call upon his name with an open heart and repentance . Ps. 51 God gave us a mind to question everything as you're doing. therefore keep asking and you will be lead to the most exciting and surprising responses. Thank you JESUS

I don't need to fear the devil. He has no power over me. God gave us power over the devil. Consider the following verse:
James 4:7
"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."
Why should I fear something that I have victory over? He has no power.

The devil does not have unlimited power he can only affect you if you allow him to. Do you remember when the devil tempted Jesus? Jesus told the devil to be gone, and guess what? He did go! Therefore I would never fear the devil.
I do not fear God in the contemporary sense of the word. Esp. becuause of Jesus! How can I fear ?

I fear God more. He is all powerful. But I need not be afraid of His terrible wrath for He is loving. As for the Satan he has no power over me; God is for me, and if God is for us who then can be against us. Also Romans says that God will crush Satan beneath my feet.

Whom should we fear? If God is for us who can be against us. When Jesus died on the cross for our sins, He overcame death itself for us for all time.
And, no Satan does not have the power to do as he wishes here on earth. He had to ask permission to touch Job, his fate and days are numbered and known in the bible, and Jesus has given us the authority to overcome him.
Thank you Jesus that I need no longer fear the oppression and attacks of the Evil One. Only God demands fear and reverence as is due the Almighty Lord.
