Probably better to ask why penguins cannot fly - after all they do have wings!!

Answer - the same reasons the Kiwi (also a bird with wings)cannot fly or climb trees. And yes the kiwis DO live where there are trees, so that argument dont work.

You think maybe the penguin and the kiwi are related?

If you dont know where kiwis live - then start googling!!

Because climbing trees, or flying in the air, was not some capacity that allowed the ancient penguins to live, thus to pass their DNA along.

Or perhaps, all the seals cut down all the freakin’ trees where the penguins lived.
Ancient 'beaver' seals.

If a situation arose in which penguins needed to climb trees, eventually a anomolous penguin, a mutation, might be born who could climb trees. Those of his offspring, also mutations, who could climb trees would be the only ones to survive. Then penguins could climb trees. That's how it happens.

Perhaps because there are no trees where penguins live. According to Evolution, organisms evolve to fit with their environment. Therefore, penguins would have to live somewhere with trees in order to evolve into tree climbing animals.

How do you KNOW that they can't climb trees?
Ever seen a penguin attempt to climb a tree and FAIL?

BIG difference between:
It can't be done
and
I've never seen it.

Because they don't live around trees. They live on a big *** chunk of Ice and rock. No point to fly or climb trees. Next question.

Why would penguins need to climb trees? There aren't any trees in the climate they live in!! I hope you are joking, because if not, you are an incredible dimwit.

They don't NEED to climb trees. They don't live in an environment that has any trees.
