Nice to see some answers:)
So many of them are related to USA. Inferiority complex?
Michael, SharonNF: any evidence of that?
Why I think thet Brits think so? Because they told me.

Some people here seem to have problem with the question, e.g. hans.
shazzy, you're partialy right - many people around the world think they and their nations are the best, in particular better than their neighbours (casus: English vs. French, Germany vs. Poland, Poland vs.Ukraine and many more). There is, however, no agreement that this is right. That way of thinking has leaded to many conflicts and wars, currently and in the past. This is not good at all.

Sharon, I did noy mean you, writing about those who have a problem with USA.
I do not think my question is pointless and such a broad spectrum of opinons has proved it. Many of you feel insulted - is it not because the question suggests you are not as prim and proper as you would like to be?
Someone said: there are no stupid questions, there are just such answers...

Only the narrow-minded, intolerant, and sectarian supremacists among them will do. Mostly those with a National Front bent.

Because most of them are taller than the rest of the world.
The drawback to this is that everything they invent tends to be 10 times too big. When they invented a computer, it was the size of a large shopping mall. It took the Japanese to figure out how to miniaturize it.
Have you ever tried to use a public toilet in a British hospital?
You have to have a ladder just to get onto the seat.

I dont think we do and I dont know where that perception comes from but I would say that most people here in the UK have that view of people in the USA.
So I suppose it depends which part of the world you are in everyone is to a point proud of their own country although I am not too proud of the UK at the moment I think its going downhill !!

We're not the greatest. We're too frikin easy. Bend over and beg. Yes George. Course we'll go to war. For God sakes, why can't we strap on some balls and act like we've got a pair?! Why do we have to go to other countries and try to sort out their problems, when our own country is screwed? Get our own house in order before we go anywhere else! We're not the 'big I am' and we never will be! I want to get out of this hell hole. When I do, the only thing I'll miss is my family and friends. GGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We don't. It's interesting how most people have answered in relation to America....
Also, we don't really call ourselves Brits...we don't label ourselves..we're above that...no I'm kidding!!
I think the reason that its portrayed that way on tv, movies, magazines, cultural institutions is because every country thinks they are better in some way, its nationalism, its natural.
Fly the Flag.

We are a proud nation, and its OK to think you are better than the rest of the world, even if you aren't. I am sure that there are people in America, Japan, Australia etc that think they are better too, and good for them be proud of who you are and where you are from.

Because they are.
Eastern_Eu in reply to your follow up comment I didn't put the USA down. It was you putting the Brits down and if you post such a pointless question it's obvious that the Brits are going to retaliate.

'Cause *someone*'s population voted in GEORGE BUSH....
But apart from that we're okay, we're not the ones all up on the patriotism thing - we ALWAYS have news items about other places in the world, and let everyone who wants to come in have free stuff, (and prevent them from working legally for a while), and would openly admit it IF someone "saved our asses in the war", so on what basis did you form that opinion, darlin'?

We are not better than anyone else, but we do have certain standards and values, that other people cant agree with, We live by certain standards, which when broken, causes us to voice our disagreement
