PETA is a vegan group the uses any means available in an attempt to force people to not eat meat. In addition, a core belief is that any animal that cannot live without human intervention doesn't deserve to be a species. Their only shelter (in New York) has one of the highest kill rates any where. They desire that humans have no interaction with animals, ie, no pets, horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, etc that mainly exist as food or pets and that these animals should go wild or die. The FBI lists PETA as a domestic terrorist organization.
The ASPCA's main concern is for animals to be treated humanely and generally show common sense. They do (IMO) fine as long as they stick to their area of expertise (domesticated animals) and away from mother nature who has different rules. They are against hunting, trapping, and most population management methods for wild animals. They attempt to persuade by education and have done quite a bit of good.

There is a very great difference between "Animal Rights/PETA" and "Animal WELFARE/ASPCA"
With PETA, NO MONEY goes to the animals. That group gives no money to shelters or rescues, or to medical care of abused animals. They focus the millions and millions of dollars they take in per year on lobbying for legislation of bogus "pet laws" because in THEIR agenda, they would like to prevent, service animals, who help the disabled, working animal AND PET animal companions. The head of PETA has been quoted as saying, that we "have to get rid of this whole 'pet nonsense'"
The ASPCA and rescue groups actually do the 'hands on" job of saving animals and finding them "forever homes!" they are the heroes.
PETA lines it's pockets with tax free dollars with a lot of false rhetoric and showmanship.
PETA = People Enabling Terrorist Activities.

PETA is basically a bunch of nuts who haven't figured out that in nature there are the eaters and the eaten and attempt to shove these beliefs down other peoples throats, often forcible. The ASPCA try's to make sure animals are treated humanely. I'm a member of the "other" PETA, (people eating tasty animals)

ASPCA is like animal cops, they arrest people who abuse animals and put the animals into good loving homes
PETA on the other hand is very anti animals as pets, they think animals would be better off in the streets than in peoples homes, they are for animals, but i personally think they go way over the edge to do what they think is right, they free loads of chickens out of the butchers into the wild, which they die, and they are just dumb, im all for the wellfare of animals, and ive even tried to become vegitarian (didnt work out) but peta is just over the top
ASPCA good/ PETA good, but in a bad way

PETA is People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. They are an animal rights activist group. They are opposed to any kind of domesticated animal use, whether for food or for entertainment.
ASPCA is the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. They are a charity based organization whose primary goals are education and rescue/rehabilitation. They encourage getting pet animals fixed to prevent unwanted animals being sent to the pound or turned loose to be wild.
In general PETA is converned with taking animals away from people, and ASPCA is concerned with people being responsible with their animals.

PETA is violent and more of a vegan animal rights group. They push their beliefs down people's throats.
The ASPCA is more calm and isn't trying to convince you to become a vegan, just educating people on how and why it's good to treat animals with respect.

PETA are extremists. They believe that no animals should be kept in homes as pets. The SPCA shelters unwanted animals and finds homes for them as well as removing mistreated animals from abusive situations.
Some people from PETA once tried to 'set' my dog 'free' at a dog show. They opened his kennel and started screaming at him to run away. He ran to me and hid behind my feet while they kept screaming at him to run. They claim that show dogs are mistreated and treated cruelly. Well if a life of good food, good grooming and lots of love and attention is cruel, then I guess I'm evil.

Actually HSUS does that, Peta spends their millions on burning people's barns, distroying habitat projects, and turning people's pets loose.

PETA members are crazy and hypocritical while the SPCA actually makes a positive difference for a lot of animals.
