Hi, I'm trying to decide on the color for my shutters on a 1930 tudor style home. The house is painted white with a peak in the front done in brick. I'm not interested in doing black. Any ideas on a nice combo to enhance the style of the house? Right now the shutters are a hunter green and I don't care for that. The arched front door is a dark stain which I like. Also....would you do the gargage door the same color as the shutters? Right now the garage is white like the house.

It all depends. Are you interested in colors used around the time your house was built? If so, I would go with something fairly "earthy" like a light mossy green. A "dirty" mustard color would also work if you don't care for green. Incidentally, at the time your Tudor-style house was built, it was not uncommon to paint the window mullions in a second color (usually a brick red or brown) in imitation of English country architecture. In either case, I wouldn't go too dark on the shutters as the contrast with the white of your house might be too jarring. I would only paint the garage door the same color if you want to highlight it. You might try cutting some foam core the size of your shutters and painting that in some colors you like and seeing how that looks on your house before you paint.

Mine is a 1926 brick and stucco Tudor, Brick is Red, Roof is Dimension shingles brown (Lt) with darker accents. The Trim is Chalet Brown, and the stucco is cream with a hint of Yellow. The Original color was white stucco with green trim, you said you didn't care for green, I didn't either. The house does not have shutters. The door is a dark red that has been wiped down with a dark stain. You didn't say where you were, so I left out specifics on paint brands, I would suggest whatever color you choose make an effort to use an off the shelf color, not one that is tinted to your color, factory colors hold up better.

I would go with a red brick color. Houses look best when 2 different colors are used as accents. Try to come up with a color for the shutters that will compliment the white, and use a different color for the front door.

I would use something close to the color of the brick. I would do the garage door the same color as the shutters.
