No. Church should be open no matter what. You don't buy your way to Heaven. (Of course churches need money to operate).

For those who give money to a church, a lot of that money goes to the upkeep of the church: heating/cooling, electricity, books, class supplies, etc.
And yes, some churches DO have ATM's in the foyer/lobby. I only give REGULARLY once a month...when I receive my retirement check. Other times when something special comes along, like a special singing group, I'll throw some money in the offering. In choir, I kick in something each week and at our weekly men's ministry meeting, about everyone kicks in $1. If you don't think you can give, don't. I don't use the envelopes that have numbers to cross to my name. I don't use my church offerings in my tax returns. That's between God and me. And it's no one else's business. I was a church treasurer for a while, and that's how I started MY giving. I give cash using a 'pew' envelope. I haven't gotten a tax report from my church in over 14 years. When I was laid off for several months and working a 'between jobs job', I didn't give anything. I made up for it once I got settled in my new job. Also, I consider work I do for and around the church as part of my tithing. It's not always about the money, but also about your time, talents and efforts. In that, I don't give the proverbial 10%, I give my best.
I apologize for my rambling.

Remember the bible story about the widow who only had two mites - very small coins.
"The poor woman put two of the smallest coins there were in the offering box. The disciples with Jesus weren't very impressed, but Jesus said that this woman had given more than any other that day. How could that be? Jesus said it was because it was all she had."
Cheques are asked from people with who can afford it. You might think of trying a simpler church.
You do what you can in this life.
To the next answer:- please tell me you are joking about ATMs in church entries?

No, I don't think you should worry about such things if you are broke, and especially not if you aren't a member of that church and just attending a ceremony for one of the regular members, but if you have extra to spare, and think it would be put to good use there, nothing wrong with that....

You are not forced to give your money. If you are forced, please know that its a wrong practice of the church. Those who give, have the revelation of giving, be it tithes or offerings in church. For my church, we have teachings on giving tithes and offerings before we decide to commit anything.
Also, giving money is a practical means of blessing and building up the church or God's work, besides serving in church. The act of giving must come with revelation, for that we know we are building the works of God and that God will bless us as we commit our money(survival) to Him.
