If you mean the other planets in our solar system, they formed as our earth did in the sun's planetary nebula about 5 billion years ago. Our planet happened to be in the habitability zone for this particular G2 run-of-the-mill star.
As for all the extrasolar planets we are discovering, it would seem that just in our own galaxy, planet formation is the norm, not the exception. Every star has a zone that if a planet forms within it, it will be hospitable to the formation of life. There are about 100 billion suns in our galaxy, about 200 billion suns in our next door neighbor galaxy, the Andromeda. There are hundreds of billions of galaxies. Those numbers just tend to go in one brain lobe and out the other, but this is an immense amount of potential for life. So, if there is a purpose, it is that life seeks a way to come into being. Perhaps the universe is becoming self aware through our eyes and those of, for example, a cat.

If the sun expands, then eventually every planet could have a closer proximity to the sun, meaning that eventually, maybe Mars will be at the same proximity that Earth is now.

It like football. Earth is the quarterback and the planets are blocking the Asteroids (Other Team).

i don't know about the others, but I Jupiter is there to be a "shield" for us. it's so big because it takes most of asteroids and meteors that otherwise would hit Earth. ever hear of Hugh Ross? he's a christian, but he knows all there is to know about science. look him up, and perhaps he could tell you a little more than i could.

Exploitation. I'm not concerned with inteligent life on other worlds. I want to see edible life. By the way, you can't have purpose, without exploitation...

What is the purpose of the billions of other stars and trillions of other planets around them? Can't you just hear God saying "dammmit, I got this one wrong too... I'll try just one more time..."
