Carbon dating right? So they can determine if something is billions of years old? I don't believe it. Man isn't that smart. He is smart, but he doesn't know went on before Moses gave us the Torah which tells us how the universe began. Since no atheist was there, there is now way he can know what took place.
Every argument I've read online between atheists and Christians is always the athiest being mean to the Christian. And he never offers proof, but just makes fun of the Christian while quoting Darwin. He also never explains why fraudulant "Piltdown Man" was used when they claim to have real proof that man evolved. Instead of PiltdownMan, why didn't they use the real stuff? because they didn't have it is why.
Do you Christians think that atheists who say there is no God would have any insight or knowledge about the universe? I certainly do not think so. It is literally impossible.
God reveals his secrets to his prophets.

God reveals to His prophets, but He lets man discover things.
Atheists can be good scientists. A good scientist looks for the truth w/o any prejudice. I believe this is why intelligent design is becoming popular. The question left is who the designer is... Jesus.

Scientists have studied the earth for a long time. They know how to date the earth, because of the elements and the minerals that they extract from their samples. Man isn't that smart, but Moses is fiction and a story, and he has no facts to back up his stories. Don't get me wrong, I love stories, but Moses isn't preparing and facts for us, just a lovely game of telephone. Which has been passed down from generations, and then written down. So, the Torah holds the facts in which the universe began? I don't think so. And God reveals his secrets to his prophets? So he chooses to love them more than others, even though he is all knowing and all understanding. If God existed and was really that powerful in knowledge, he would be much smarter than you or me. I think he would prove to the non believers that he is real. Why play games with people? What is the point? I want the truth, not a bunch of games. I believe in nature to be my "god." Nature is not kind, nor cruel, it just exists. And I believe that the brain can lead us on many different paths, and it is not always to be trusted. By the way, I don't believe in santa claus or the easter bunny either, but I love getting presents.

OK, pay attention because here is a reality check.

Just because you believe/don't believe something does not make it true.

It doesn't matter if you believe in carbon dating or not. The reality is, carbon dating works. It is also apparent that you know nothing about carbon dating.

* The best-known absolute dating technique is carbon-14 dating, which archaeologists prefer to use. However, the half-life of carbon-14 is only 5730 years, so the method cannot be used for materials older than about 70,000 years.

* Radiometric dating involves the use of isotope series, such as rubidium/strontium, thorium/lead, potassium/argon, argon/argon, or uranium/lead, all of which have very long half-lives, ranging from 0.7 to 48.6 billion years. Subtle differences in the relative proportions of the two isotopes can give good dates for rocks of any age.

So, carbon dating cannot determine if something is billions of years old. See the link below for accurate information about carbon dating.

Your sentence "he never offers proof, but just makes fun of the Christian while quoting Darwin" makes no sense. The quotes from Darwin probably are proof. In fact, the proof of evolution is all around you. It happens everyday. Evolution is a fact (again, whether you choose to believe it or not, is it truth).

As for "Piltdown Man", that is a great example of how science can correct itself. When something turns out to be inaccurate or fraudulent, science will reject it. This is not the case with religious belief, as you are "locked in" to what the bible says. Unfortunately for you, the bible is being proved wrong more and more, and eventually will collapse from the weight of scientific evidence.

The simple truth (again, whether or not you choose to believe it) is that god does not exist. Never has. Did not create us, the universe, or anything. Clinging to a false belief may make you feel good, but it does not make it true.

Oh my are you serious? You basically just fit exactely the sterotype on all christians. Carbon dating is not a very complex process, so man is smart enough to do it. There is so much evidence to support that the earth was not created by a god a couple thousand years ago. What proof do you have that christianity is real, besides a book written by a few people acting on "the word of god"? I guess you will keep putting it down to faith, while I will keep needing real evidence.

PS most of my friends are christians and they are actually very smart individuals. It still suprises me sometimes that there are actually people like you out there.

You think not. You bought into an old Creationist deceit. Carbon dating is good to about 50,000 years. There are numerous other techniques that are suitable for billions of years.

Moses wasn't there when it began, either.

Piltdown man was exposed by scientists. Creationists are the ones who quote Darwin -- out of context.

You've made a lot of assertions that cannot be supported by fact. What you have is a bunch of your opinions -- some of which are clearly wrong, and none of which you can show is right.

First off, let's dispell a few myths. You do not have to be an atheist to be a scientist. You do not have to believe every word of the Bible to be absolute fact to be a Christian. As a book of faith, it may be infallible, but as a book of science, let's face it, it's a joke. I'll put more faith in the 2000+ years of scientific research, discovery, etc. that have gone on since the first barely-literate author of the Bible put pen to papyrus.

There are many many people of faith who hold the profession of scientist in various fields (mathematics, biology, physics, chemistry, etc.) who find no conflict between the scientific principles they know to be true and the faith they hold. In many ways, study of the sciences can lead to a greater understanding of the order inherent in the universe and the belief in an intelligent, thoughtful God vs. the magician, hand-waving God that the Fundamentalists believe in.

BTW, carbon dating only works to date things that are less than 100,000 years old, because C-14's half-life is less than 6000 years, and you can't go much more than 10 half-lives before it's tough to pick up the signal for C-14 vs. background radiation. You need to use another form of radioactive dating, usually potassium-argon, for longer term radioactive dating.

Got news for you genius, carbon dating is quit accurate at dating things less than 50,000 years old. There are other dating methods used to determine older things. Read much besides creationist garbage do ya?

Christians deserve what they get. Don't like it? tuff.

Science always offers evidence to back up its claims, but you have to be smart enough to understand it. Apparently you are not. Too bad religion never offers evidence to back up its claims. You just have to take their word on it.

You are now lying, Piltdown man has been explained

I'm beginning to think after reading your post, you have a difficult time thinking.

Radiometric dating is reliable because lots of different and independent methods agree with each other, and also with other non-radiometric methods. That simply wouldn't happen if it wasn't valid.

It is certainly true that humans were not around for most of the last 14 billion years or so, to witness first hand the origin of the universe and living organisms. However, many crimes also go unwitnessed, and we still feel confident enough about deducing what happened from the evidence available later, that a person's life or freedom can be spared or forfeited in a court of law on the strength of it. So, the lack of eyewitness testimony is not a valid objection to scientific discoveries.

Genetics proves that all life on Earth, including humans of course, is related by common descent - part of one huge family tree. We would know that for certain even if no-one had ever found one single fossil in all of history.

The bible says the earth is 6,000 years old. That's not correct, there is documented history over 5,000 years old, the Bhagavad-Gita is about 5,000 years old.

I'm not an atheist.

I'm also not saying Christianity is wrong because of this, but THAT is wrong. It's bluntly and in no way possible only 6,000 years old. That's silly. I know some people think the bible is 100% accurate, and maybe that's true. The bible you're looking at is a translation of translation, etc. It's NOT 100% accurate. Who cares, don't worry about that, it's still good.

Science and atheism agree because most scientists are atheists!

I doubt that most modern scientists even consider the possibility that there is a God. And those scientists are teaching new ones, and ridiculing anyone who even mentions the possibility of God.
