How many words are there in the German language for Snake or Serpent or Viper? My Macintosh word translator says "Schlange". Is this correct? If so, how many other words can you come up with for Snake?

"Die Schlange" (f, regardless of the animal's gender) is correct, and the only word I can think of that just generally means "snake". There are also words for particular kinds of snakes, of course... "Viper" (viper), "Natter" (colubrid), Kobra (cobra)...

There are also "Giftschlange" und "Würgeschlange", for snakes which kill their prey through poison or strangulation, respectively.
