I, too have seen this painting, and I believe it is a depiction of the martyrdom of St. Joan of Arc from France. I hope this helps. You could contact any major museum, such as the Metropolitan in NYC, the Museum of Modern Art in NYC, the St. Louis Art Museum, the Chicago Art Institute, the Getty Museum, or the Gugenheim Museum for additional information.

I may be wrong but I think this could be the original painting commissioned for an album cover for a record album by Leonard Cohen called 'Songs Of Leonard Cohen'. During the late 1960s through the 1980s it was not uncommon for record companies to commission artists to do original art work for record albums.

The Leonard Cohen 'Joan Of Arc' cover became famous during the late 60s and was based on two songs he did about Joan Of Arc. If so the original painting should easily be worth ten grand.

But I may be wrong. It could be some other painting you saw.

I think it has to do with the Salem Witch Trials, I have seen the painting before, if it is the same painting.
