The U.S. no longer has the stomach for war. The only reason we've managed to conduct a war on terror is President Bush and his people. During President Clinton's eight years, we were attacked by terrorists several times. But nothing was done. Look at the attitude of many in the country now. They don't want to fight, no matter what. They don't want the U.S. to defend itself or others. Without President Bush this country would be exactly what Osama called us; a paper tiger.

The attack happened because the US government wouldn't allow the US Marines to even load their weapons. They didn't want them to appear like the bad guys. So they made them literally walk around with unloaded weapons. They wouldn't allow them to even have their crew served weapons loaded in defense of their perimeter.

So Hezbollah saw that the Americans were attempting to look like the good guys and thought that it would be a good time to just blow up basically 241 people that had no ability to defend themselves since they were ordered to have unloaded weapons.

About 6 months after the attack the US withdrew them from the UN mission to Beruit. This was done due to lack of popular support of the mission, the disbelief that the UN was doing anything worthwhile there, and because of the belief that this was an Israeli problem not ours.

On a personal note your question could have been worded in such a way that wasn't insulting or disrespectful to the dead. You could have just asked why the US withdrew the Marines from Lebanon. Instead you asked this question in a grotesque manner designed to disrespect the memory of my fallen brothers.

I dont have to worry about getting even with you, people like yourself cause themselves so much misery in life that people like me end up feeling sorry for them.

Karma is coming your way my despicable, disrespectful friend.

You make me sick honestly, good luck to you.

Actually cut and run refers to yellow bellying it out. Meaning running in the face of a battle. Thier barracks, where they were SLEEPING where the one place one assumes to be safe was bombed. They weren't running from a battle. they were running from a collapsed building. Lets give the terroritsts YOUR address and let them BOMB YOU you jerk! and see if you run or stay in your house and fight from a crashing down building. MIND you your house compared to a barracks might as well be made out of straw. Barracks are THICK concrete walls and ceilings. To withstand mild natural disasters and small attacks.

A BOMB went of you dumb lard. and floors of concrete was falling on them crushing them instantly and hitting them in the head with steal beams.....Who wouldn't run..

they werent running from a battle or the enemy or protecting the US.

DUMB IDIOT check your facts.

I hope you get crushed like they did jerk off.

what a horrible thing to ask.

thousands of marines and military members have fallen and lost their lives, injured, lost famillies so you can have yours and sit there and ask obcesene dumb questions such as that. and for that jerk off that answered the way he did respond with ur address/name/number see how brave you really are.....they died for you to be in the land of the free or be freed. go to a country like iran or somewhere so u can see how good marines and the military are. they fight....Military members ALL of them walk towards the gun fire and mortars not run. or else the US would have won by now and far less casualities. THEY WALK AND MARCH TOWARDS THE FIRE SHOTS>

screw u jerk off

You little _____. Trying to revise history? You should thank the Marines that you haven't been made into a lamp shade. If you live in the USA, I'd suggest that you either learn accurate history or get back on your meds.

The Marine sentries at the gate were operating under their rules of engagement, which made it very difficult to respond quickly to the truck (sort of like Iraq and Vietnam, ROE set by freaking civilians!). By the time the two sentries had locked, loaded, and shouldered their weapons, the truck was already inside the building's entry way.

The suicide bomber detonated his explosives, which were equivalent to 12,000 pounds (about 5,400kg) of TNT. The force of the explosion collapsed the four-story cinder-block building into rubble, crushing many inside (how could any one run, they were all dead except for a few that were rescued under sniper fire.)

President Ronald Reagan called the attack a "despicable act" and pledged to keep a military force in Lebanon. Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger said there would be no change in the U.S.'s Lebanon policy. On October 24 French President François Mitterrand visited the French bomb site. It was not an official visit, and he only stayed for a few hours, but he did declare: "We will stay." U.S. Vice President George Bush toured the Marine bombing site on October 26 and said the U.S. "would not be cowed by terrorists."

President Reagan planned to target the Sheik Abdullah barracks in Baalbek, Lebanon, which housed Iranian Revolutionary Guards believed to be training Hezbollah fighters.[3] But Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger aborted the mission, reportedly because of his concerns that it would harm U.S. relations with other Arab nations.

Besides a few shellings, there was no serious retaliation for the Beirut bombing from the Americans. In December 1983, U.S. aircraft attacked Syrian targets in Lebanon, but this was in response to Syrian missile attacks on planes, not the barracks bombing.

The Marines were moved offshore where they could not be targeted. On February 7, 1984, President Reagan ordered the Marines to begin withdrawal from Lebanon. This was completed on February 26; the rest of the MNF was withdrawn by April.

In May 2003, in a case brought by the families of the 241 servicemen who were killed, U.S. District Court Judge Royce C. Lamberth declared that the Islamic Republic of Iran was responsible for the 1983 attack. Lamberth concluded that Hezbollah was formed under the auspices of the Iranian government, was completely reliant on Iran in 1983, and assisted Iranian Ministry of Information and Security agents in carrying out the operation.[7] Among the intelligence information initially uncovered by Thomas Fortune Fay, an attorney for the families of the victims, was a National Security Agency (NSA) intercept of a message sent from Iranian intelligence headquarters in Tehran to Hojjat ol-eslam Ali Akbar Mohtashemi, the Iranian ambassador in Damascus. As it was paraphrased by presiding U.S. District Court Judge Royce C. Lamberth, "The message directed the Iranian ambassador to contact Hussein Musawi, the leader of the terrorist group Islamic Amal, and to instruct him ... 'to take a spectacular action against the United States Marines.'"

And so, Iran, Hezbollah, and Syria are still in business today, thanks to the non-action of Ronald Reagan and continued under Bush I and now Bush II.

And you liberals want to run from Iraq.

What are you talking about?
It was a suicide bomber, no one ran away.
The General who designed the security was canned
You'll have to check with Ron Reagan as to why he then withdrew them but it was political.
