God is Love and the source of all love. To say one does not love God but does love others is a contradiction. Now one can have nice likes and intentions and do nice things but real, I'll die for you, type of love, the kind that says I'll gladly decrease that you may increase is not found outside of God. How many people do you know willing to die for you or always willing to meet your needs even when it hurts.

You have some misconceptions there. There is nothing that says nonbelievers can not love. What Christians believe is that the love God has is greater than what we as humans can understand without Him. We can have deep, passionate, unconditional love for each other but it will still seem small when compared to God only because God is God. That doesn't mean people are miserable animals, just not God.

I don't know of anyone that believes that.
It seems to me that all people without exception show love to some degree. Sometimes I've observed people without religion being more loving than some that have a religion.
Your question reminds me of something very different the Bible says:
"He that does not love has not come to know God, because God is love." - James 4:8
If a person fails to show love their claim to know God is empty.
"If anyone makes the statement: “I love God,” and yet is hating his brother, he is a liar. For he who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot be loving God, whom he has not seen. 21Â And this commandment we have from him, that the one who loves God should be loving his brother also." James 4:20,21
Everyone has the capacity to love and shows love to some degree, that is simply the way we are made, we do it to some degree naturally. The Bible indicates that love is an outstanding mark of true worshippers of God.
Jesus said:
"By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves." John 13:35
So what the Bible is saying is that if a person knows and loves God then they must show love to others. This does not mean that persons that do not know God and do not love God can't love at all.

Who told you this silly non-sense I wonder? If you don't love God, He will still bless you, because you are created 'in the image of God, and after His likeness'! Do you not know that ALL love comes down to us from the Father of Glory above, regardless whether or not you believe in Him or not?!
Likewise the beating of your very heart in your unbelieving chest, and the filling of your lungs every few seconds, is a FREE gift from the Father of Lights as well!
Truly I say to you, there are many FREE gifts that God gives you, me and billions of others on the planet each day, that most of us aren't even aware of throughout the day! Clear water to drink, being one, and plenty of food to eat being another!!! But has man turns his back on God and the blessing He gives from above, these gifts of food and water become less and less as the rebellion continues!!!
Then there is the ultimate gift that God freely gave nearly 2000 years ago!!! See scripture below

I've never heard anyone say that if you don't love God you can't love others. However I do believe that Love comes from God as all good things. God is Love is one bit of scripture that most people know... 1John 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. Meaning that if you say you know God and you are hateful you don't really know God. Love is essential. One would seriously have to twist this verse to make it say if you don't love God you can't love others. Showing Love is one of our greatest commandments. And without love scripture says we are nothing but an annoying noise and no one will listen to us 1 cor 13:1.
I would have to say that perfect love comes from God when one knows God one can understand what perfect love is... and he helps us Love with out things like jealously. In the same token Many people have come to know God just by someone showing them Love... weither something like someone jumping in front of a bullet to save them (self sacrifice being the ultimate act of love) or as simple as just being the freindly ear. Our ablity to love as human beings is one of the things that show's us what God is like. He gave all people the capacity to love so we could come to understand His love. I would think one who's life was completely void of love (say a child who was abused or some such) would have a really hard time understanding God... It is his love and the love of others that draws people to God. One must have the ablity to love and to be able to accept love to accept God in the first place.
I hope I was able to explain this well. May God bless you richly.

Hmmm, makes us sound like empty shells without emotion or feeling, which of course is not the case. It is just that I prefer to focus on other human beings to express love rather than the supernatural.

my brother is part of a fundamentalist denomination and I've never heard of fundamentalists believing that. would be interesting to which denominations you've gotten your presupposition from. your question is valid but your details show that you already have your answer somehow and just want opinions on it.
