The World Fact Book has this to say about Mexico's economic overview;
"Mexico has a free market economy that recently entered the trillion dollar class. It contains a mixture of modern and outmoded industry and agriculture, increasingly dominated by the private sector. Recent administrations have expanded competition in seaports, railroads, telecommunications, electricity generation, natural gas distribution, and airports. Per capita income is one-fourth that of the US; income distribution remains highly unequal."
Many other countries come to mind as being much poorer than Mexico. Such as Sierra Leon.
The World Fact Book says this about the economic overview of Sierra Leone;
"Sierra Leone is an extremely poor African nation with tremendous inequality in income distribution. While it possesses substantial mineral, agricultural, and fishery resources, its economic and social infrastructure is not well developed, and serious social disorders continue to hamper economic development."
For ignorant "Anglos" "Asians" and general HUMANS...including some Hispanics... MAY believe that Mexico is a very poor nation. But I have never heard of some one declaring it as the "poorest country".
Although it is economically behind U.S. standards it is by far and large NOT the poorest Country in the World.
I am not of Hispanic decent...not that SHOULD make a difference.

Mexico is a bit more than a third of the way down this "GDP per capita" list: http://www.studentsoftheworld.info/infopays/rank/PNBH2.html
India and Ghana are much lower.
These kinds of charts give no clue as to how the wealth is divided up. In India and China there are many many very poor people, and quite a lot of very wealthy people. I have heard that the same is true in Mexico, that a small number of people (like that billionaire who runs all the telecommunications) have a high concentration of the wealth.

Without having ever been there, myself, I know that Mexico is among the richest countries of the world. Contrary to what many people believe, Mexico is not even considered to be a "Third World Country." Mexico, however, does not provide well for their poor people, socially. In Mexico, there are basically the well-to-do and the poor, with very few people in the middle level. Mexico has the means to be as well off as Canada and the USA, if they just tried. They don't care about their poor and only care to keep the rich, rich.

Not at all! They have the second richest man in the world among their citizenry (though I hear he was born in Iran).
They have over US$2,000,000,000,000 worth of known petroleum reserves.
Their GDP is ten times what it was in the eighties (citation needed).
Precious metals, priceless coastline and ports, seafood, the list goes on.
But, still they're poor. Why? Their population has doubled about every 25 years since (I think) about the 1930's (citation needed).
Japan, Germany, Taiwan and other nations populations haven't grown. In fact, Japan's actually decreased by over 20,000 in 2005.
So, the Mexican government, even if it wasn't so corrupt, would have to double their infrastructure, schools, roads, courts, sewer-systems, etc every 25 years!!! Can you imagine what that would cost?!
They need to offer incentives to girls starting at age 11 to take that birth-control shot that lasts a full year. One shot per year and Mexico could become rich!!!

Have you ever been to Mexico?
There are slums and there are nice places, perhaps more extreme on both ends.
There are millions of Americans living in Mexico now. Probably more would go if they could afford it. If you are going to buy in Mexico you'll need 40% down so you'd better have $100,000 cash

Monterrey is a richer city. Many cities are detrimental, risky, and corrupted by drug cartels. different than that, you're right. Many considered necessary and south individuals illegally come to the U.S. by Mexico. I heard of one around up of illegals that grew to become out to be frequently Colombian and Honduran, no longer Mexican.

Hardly. It is one of the 13 biggest economies in the world, and has the 2d richest man living there.
It can well afford to take care of its own poor and give them free education through high school, instead of encouraging them to come here illegally and take education from our children and services from our poor.
