I agree with you, it's mostly a contest to out-scream each other.
I'm as free-thinking as they come, but on occasion, I do learn from religious people.
Some people, however, seem to get offended any time you question their beliefs. No matter how well you answered a question, even if you were polite and respectful, if it goes against a narrow-minded person's world view, he'll give you a thumbs-down for daring to make him think...

I cannot say it any better than you did. However, most people have little or no real knowledge of the Bible. Most people only quote the things which they have heard other parrot. Example: spare the rod and spoil the child is often quoted as comming from the Bible. NOT!!!! Living in an ever burning hell for ever and ever. NOT!!! I'm with you "a forum for people who honestly want to share ideas and get answers:. would be nice. However there is now and again a person as yourself that is sincere, therefore I will look in now and again. Have a great day, and a greater week. Catch you again, anothertime.

There are plenty of trolls and those who don't understand the difference between a debate and a diatribe. But then again, there are plenty of fun, intelligent people who give good, thoughtful answers to questions.
And many people do come here with genuine questions about religion and spirituality. They're not trying to cause trouble or problems. . .they simply want more information about the subject.
They and the good regulars are the ones that make participating in this forum worthwhile.

Serious individuals recognise the soapbox preachers in an instant. There are some who have a level of sophistication garnered from life who have no axe to grind, and who offer their sincere opinions. Look for those answers. They may not get 10 points, but they are sincere, and without any hidden agenda. Respect those who are on the path with you, and cherish their efforts to share the lessons they have learned. Recognise that their lessons may not be your lessons, and know that they are going to help you along the path, whatever path you may have chosen...

I am here for the people who are struggling and need help. I am also here for people who have sincere questions and want a sincere answer.
Although it has been hijacked, I'll still be here. Hope we can get more people in here that can respectfully disagree or agree.

I'm honestly interested and searching for more "answers" or truths. Do you have a lot of dreams, per your screen name? I do....and they have spiritual overtones. Sometimes I see posts here about dreams, but mostly I see stuff about faith or lack of faith. We're not all here preaching from a soapbox. Sometimes it's better than others......stick around something will grab your attention.
Peace, Love, and Blessings

I like that section. Frequently I will pick best answers in Religion and Spirituality because I usually learn something and sometimes some of the answers give me things to think about.

It does seem to have been hijacked. Your figures are only slightly exaggerated, but I ask myself this question every time I come to this forum these days. Sometimes I say, no, it's not worth it, and don't come on for many days.
As for another forum... there are lots and lots of forums for religious discussion, even on Yahoo alone.

I too wish we had a such a peaceful R&S section. I don't go there too often to answer unless I see a need to defend my spiritual beliefs. I think sometimes the reason some troll or give disrespectful answers is because they are so anti-God or anti-religious, bigoted or just plain ignorant. Amen.

It depends on what you are expecting out of this.
Or maybe how you are looking at what is being said.
Personally, I look at the questions that can't be answered by the people claiming to be affiliated with some particular religion or other.
That is a good starting place.
