By early 2008, Microsoft's contracts with computer makers will require companies to only sell Vista-loaded machines. "The OEM version of XP Professional goes next January," said Frank Luburic, senior ThinkPad product manager for Lenovo. "At that point, they'll have no choice."

Despite Microsoft's relentless promotion of Vista, manufacturers are still seeing plenty of demand from customers for systems preloaded with XP, especially in the finicky SOHO market.

Why is all people so greatly surprised that vista is slightly a pig, Australian laptop magazines have been reporting this because of the fact it replaced into in beta late 2006. Now we pay attention there's a 0.33 provider %. for XP, advert vista would be old in 2009. meaning they're going to re badge vista and attach its issues and provide us a sparkling OS. not!

I've been running Vista since January and haven't came across too many problems with it.

Only things i've noticed is that Windows Media Player won't play DIVX or XVID files. I can't back-up my computer because some folders need an administror to be logged on(even though I am one) and my Word icon in the start menu won't open Word.

Once the service pack comes out then it should be more stable. I think I need to wipe my PC and re-install windows to see if this helps some of my problems.

try emulation of xp-software by right-click-->properties-->compatibility-->run this program in-->select "Windows XP Service Pack 2". Anyways, whats so terrible about Vista? if you REALLY liked xp, get a disk cloning software like Norton Ghost and clone your disk. if you're too lazy to buy an extra hard disk, try buying it from like black markets in asia :D. If you REALLY cant do that, then just pirate it off something like thepiratebay.org. Anyways, what's so bad about Vista, except the part where you have to do the right-click stuff? the graphics are cool and the environment is sleek and modern.

By that time, most likely Service Pack 1 will be out and drivers will have been perfected, so it may not matter much.

As has already been suggested, you can always switch to Apple's OS X or go Ubuntu.

Vote for choice and don't allow yourself to be controlled. Go with Linux or Mac, or even OpenBSD...
